What we are looking for:
We are currently looking for an Associate Scientist to join a growing team and contribute to the development of complex iPSC-derived models and the execution of customer projects. An ideal candidate must have a track-record in supporting the development of in vitro cell-based assays, preferably related to drug safety and efficacy. Key Activities and Responsibilities
· Working within an agile team to contribute towards the development, optimisation, and validation of robust techniques, protocols and assays for commercial and R&D projects
· Working within a team executing routine, non-routine and multiple, varied tasks
· Working within and across assay teams to simultaneously contribute to developmental work and deliver bespoke customer projects
· Ensuring accurate and traceable record keeping in line with company policies and project-specific requirements
· Accountability for the accurate technical execution of the projects
· Contributing towards the management of day-to-day operations of the laboratory including: stock availability, equipment maintenance and safety documentation
Person Specification
Essential
· Previous industrial laboratory experience in running cell-based assays
· Prior mammalian cell culture experience and a strong understanding of aseptic techniques
· Experience in cell & molecular biology techniques, including flow cytometry, plate reader-based assays, qPCR, Western Blotting, immunofluorescence and fluorescence microscopy
· Self-motivated and demonstrate ability to efficiently learn new laboratory techniques and the ability to be flexible and prioritise workloads accordingly
· Dedicated team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Excellent organisation skills, including maintenance of accurate and traceable records
· Track-record of contributing in a team environment
· Demonstrate ability to work independently, develop and implement work plans
· Proficiency in IT systems (Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and statistical analysis
· Ability to work in a flexible manner including weekend working, depending on the demand of client-driven projects
Desirable
· Experience of pluripotent stem cell culture and differentiation techniques
· Experience of contributing to the development of complex in vitro models
· Experience in in vitro drug discovery, toxicology and/or gene therapy
· Experience in retinal models and/or retinal physiology
· Experience of working within formal quality management environment
