The company has unique capabilities in the development and commercialisation of 2-D and 3-D (organoid) in vitro assays, and we work with global pharmaceutical companies to provide important data on the safety, pharmacology and efficacy of new therapies.
We are currently focused on three tissue platforms: kidney, retina, and lung.
We are looking for talented and passionate individuals to work on projects across our kidney assay platform. You will be working as part of a team of scientists on projects with customers and in-house development programmes.
The job is located at our laboratories based in a modern campus close to the centre of the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.

Key Activities and Responsibilities:
- Working within and across assay teams to successfully deliver customer specific
projects including liaising with customers.
- Carrying out the processing of fresh tissue, isolation and maintenance of primary
cells across a range of species.
- Responsibility for running assays under direction of Senior/Principle Scientist.
- Accountability for the accurate technical execution of the projects.
- Ensuring accurate and traceable record keeping in line with company policies and
project-specific requirements.
- Managing the day-to-day operations of the laboratory including stock, equipment
and safety documentation.
- Contributing to the development, optimisation, and validation of robust
techniques, protocols and assays for commercial and R&D project.
- Contributing to a weekend on-call rota.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Scientific graduate with a BSc/MSc in Pharmacology/Toxicology/Biomedical
sciences or equivalent subject
- A strong understanding of aseptic techniques relevant to mammalian tissue culture
- Experienced in molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA isolation, PCR,
RT-qPCR, Western blotting, cell-based assays,, immunohistochemistry• Experience
in IT and statistical analysis
- Demonstrate ability to efficiently learn new laboratory techniques and ability to
prioritise a varied workload
- Excellent organisational skills including maintenance of accurate and traceable
records
- Track-record of contributing to a team environment
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a flexible manner including weekend working, depending on the
demand of client-driven projects
Desirable:
- Industrial experience and training in a similar role of developing and running cell-
based assays
- Experience in handling human and/or animal tissue
- Background in drug development/ADMET
- Prior experience in GLP and SOP
- Prior experience in COSHH and risk assessment preparation
- Prior experience of mammalian or tissue culture
