We are looking for a Microsoft 365 (M365) Subject Matter Expert (SME) Associate Product Manager who is keen to learn and grow their product management skills with us at DWP.
In this role you would be part of our Collaboration and Communication Services team. We manage the Microsoft 365 products (including Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive) across the DWP and have a strong focus on adoption, education and evergreen Product Management. Job description
As a Microsoft SME Associate Product Manager, you will manage subsets of features of a product. You will use your growing knowledge of user needs and goals to frame problems, make evidenced based decisions and set priorities.
You will learn product management techniques and thought processes whilst being fully supported by a more senior Product Manager.
DWP has over 100,000 staff working across 800+ locations and our Microsoft products are used be everyone to collaborate, communicate, create and share.
Your role as Microsoft SME Associate Product Manager will be to:
- Support content creation teams in delivering learning material.
- Advise, guide, negotiate, persuade, discuss and gain understanding of issues to help inform decision making.
- Develop best practice and use case scenarios for users and admins of M365.
- Keep sight on the Microsoft end-user technology roadmap and can translate this into user impacts or user benefits.
- Provide information and advice and recommend a course of action based on research and analysis of reliable data.
- Interviewing users and attending meetings in support of senior employees to provide subject matter expertise.
- Identifying the potential effects of a particular course of action and submitting options to senior managers for consideration.
Knowledge of Office 365 at both user and admin level would be beneficial when starting the role but isn’t essential as training will be provided.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
Salary Information
Salary for this role is from £38,469 (Band min) to £41.480 (Band max).
Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.
Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.
Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.

Stage 1: Application
Your application will consist of three parts:
1. A Personal Details application form.
2. Your employment history detailing your responsibilities, skills, accomplishments, plus your qualifications and relevant training. Please copy this information into the box field provided.
3. Personal statement up to 1000 words.
When giving details in your employment history and personal statement you should highlight your experience in line with essential criteria below:
- A good knowledge of the M365 suite and how this can be applied to improve working practices.
- Experience of assisting others to adopt new or under-utilised M365 products, supporting with problem-solving and learning.
- Has awareness of tools, terms and concepts used to deliver a product.
- Identifies key stakeholders and relationships and works with teams to build these. Understands how to work with stakeholders and contributes to improving these relationships.
- Has an understanding that everything we do is focused on the user of the product or service. Has an awareness or understanding of user experience analysis and its principles. Can see the purpose of user stories and focuses on user needs.
The sift panel will use the information in your employment history and personal statement to assess your experience, skills and knowledge against the essential criteria above.

Stage 2: Interview
If you’re successful at sift stage you will be invited to a video interview via Microsoft Teams. There, you will be assessed against the experiences listed in the essential criteria.
You will be asked to do a short (5 minutes) presentation on how you would go about creating and communicating a product vision for an M365 application. Describing the approach you would take and how you would secure the buy-in of your team and the wider organisation.
Interviews will take place from mid-May 2023. Interview dates to be confirmed.
