You’ll be joining our Infrastructure Advisory Group (IAG), within our broader Infrastructure, Government and Health Deals capability. The team provides in-depth advice on the strategic, financial, regulatory and commercial issues driving investments in infrastructure and major delivery programmes. This ranges from providing strategic advice, financing investments, to working with the public sector to develop the business cases and delivery plans to get change approved and advising through negotiations and processes that support that change. The nature of the projects and programmes we advise on typically have public sector or regulated entity involvement in some form, either as a client or counterparty.
The business is expanding rapidly and is looking for a high-quality candidate to support this growth. We are looking for an experienced Associate Director candidate, with a strategic mindset and a real passion for learning and exploring the most important issues facing our clients now and in the future.

The Role
The role is within the IAG Social Infrastructure team. We provide end-to-end support across the strategy, financing and structuring, business cases and execution of major transactions and change to a wide range of clients across Health, Central and Local Government, Housing, Education, Defence, and other regulated and critical areas of infrastructure that impact the daily lives of people in the UK and beyond including for example financial services, life sciences and other sectors.
As an Associate Director within the team, you will (supported by Partners and Directors) work with senior client stakeholder to help them solve complex issues. Associate Directors lead the design of engagements and have responsibility for day-to-day delivery. You will work with your team to shape the approach, develop and present your recommendations.
You will also play a leading role in business development, proactively managing on-sell and cross-sell opportunities and supporting the identification, pursuit and conversion of new business development opportunities.
Additionally, you will proactively develop thought leadership; design and lead practice development initiatives; actively develops your own knowledge and expertise in chosen proposition(s) and sector of choice; build and maintain a strong external and internal network; motivate, mentor and develop project team members and appraisees
Some specifics on the role:
- Leading the development of financial recovery plans and other financial improvement engagements for clients across the NHS and private healthcare
- Senior day to day leadership of client engagements providing robust commercial insight
- Building enduring client relationships
- Securing and steering input from internal teams and external advisers
- Producing, reviewing and overseeing development high quality documentation and presentations
- Leading business development and network building
- Leading proposals and pitch development for new business
- Developing sector specific market intelligence
- Providing training, guidance and leadership to the junior team members
- Ensuring engagement administration, compliance and risk management procedures are adhered to
- Performance management, coaching and mentoring of junior team members
- Any other duties commensurate with the senior nature of the role
The Person
You will have:
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire your teams and develop outstanding client relationships
- A mix of structured problem-solving skills (including strong numerical capabilities combined with sound commercial acumen), ability to deliver insightful recommendations that can be practically executed, excellent written English and oral communication skills (other language skills would be a strong bonus)
- Substantial experience of delivering work into the sectors we serve (although we are interested in individuals with a diverse range of backgrounds to challenge the status quo also) and a track record of delivering high impact projects
- Experience of managing and supporting high value business development activities
- The desire and motivation to build a business together with he team leadership, and take advantage of the substantial opportunities to leverage the wide range of capabilities across KPMG to deliver exceptional results for our clients.
Specifically, with regards to this role, successful candidates will be able to demonstrate experience in working with clients to support:
- Leading the development and delivery of financial recovery plans
- At programme and project level you can demonstrate your ability to shape the direction and structuring of complex programmes of change to best ensure delivery of strategic outcomes
- Develop business cases and strategic documentation suitable for board level engagement, and engagement with wider stakeholders and regulators.
- Familiarly and experience in developing Treasury 5-case business cases is an advantage
- Understanding of the regulatory, commercial and risk elements of bidding for and delivering advisory work to major clients and in regulated environments is an advantage
- You will also be able to demonstrate a network of high value relationships across the NHS that could be leveraged to gain market insights and potentially generate new work
