The Associate Director of Nursing for Safeguarding (Adults and Children) will have extensive knowledge and safeguarding expertise and proven leadership skills across external partnerships and internally across the organization. They will be responsible for the delivery of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA) safeguarding statutory responsibilities including:
- Safeguarding Adults
- Safeguarding Children
- PREVENT Agenda
- Domestic Abuse
- Multiagency Public Protection Arrangments
The post holder will also have senior management responsibility for the Corporate Nursing Dementia Care Service, Acute Hospital Learning Disability Liaison Service and Falls Prevention Service.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will manage on behalf of NCA Chief Nurse the framework for Safeguarding and Public protection within the Organisation, working in partnership with the Corporate and Care Organisation Directors including Directors of Nursing, Associate Directors of Governance, Therapies, senior managers, and clinicians to ensure the embedding of the framework within service delivery for the protection of patients and enhancement of patient care.
Provide Operational management leadership to the Safeguarding team, Dementia Care Service, Acute Hospital Learning Disability Liaison Service and Falls Prevention Service.
Responsible for effective interpretation of national health, social care, and professional strategy/policy relevant to the Trust to produce relevant clinical guidance, advice, and direction.
Ensure there are robust governance and monitoring processes in place within the Safeguarding, Dementia Services, Acute Hospital Learning Disability liaison team and Falls prevention team to provide assurance to the Trust Board on the risks and management of safeguarding risks presenting in patient care in clinical services.
Lead the design and coordinate the delivery of safeguarding and Prevent and Domestic abuse learning events both internally within the organisations and with partnership Organisation as required.
Ensure the effective implementation of the requirements for NHS provider organisations of the Intercollegiate document for Safeguarding adults and Children 2018.

- First degree or equivalent in a heath related topic and Masters level academic qualification in a safeguarding related topic
Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstration of advanced transactional management skills and knowledge of range of models of management acquired through either: - First line management qualification or Experiential learning to develop first line management skills and knowledge competencies together with understanding of models of leadership, acquired through either: Evidence of understanding of models of change management and service improvement with ability to give examples of application.
- Evidence of understanding of models of change management and service improvement with ability to give examples of application.
- Demonstrating leadership of large-scale change management/service improvement projects with presentation of underpinning recognised theoretical rational
- Demonstration of an understanding of the purpose and application of research and audit through academic study or experiential learning and application.
- Significant experience in a senior management role (above band 8a) to evidence use of strategic and operational management skills and thinking skills.
- In depth knowledge of safeguarding adults, safeguarding children, domestic abuse, MARAC, MAPPA and Prevent, Domestic Homicide agenda having worked in a safeguarding role.
- Demonstrate ability to manage in crisis, make decisions under pressure and be self- reliant evidenced by having significant experience in lead specialist role used for trust wide guidance or advice.
- Evidence of using mentoring, coaching supervision or assessment knowledge and skills.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skill in investigation, review, and data analysis through multiple experiences of investigation and governance review processes where information collation and analysis are required - through e.g., service reviews, complaints investigations, incident investigation and/or disciplinary processes.
- Ability to demonstrate teaching and presentation skills and knowledge of theoretical models of education and information transfer through either: Formal education/teaching qualification and practice experience or Experiential learning and demonstration of teaching/education practice underpinned by description of theoretical rationale.
- Ability to demonstrate skills in planning and developing research and audit projects using recognised methodology
- Able to demonstrate and maintain emotional resilience and personal management of health and wellbeing within a demanding health and social care environment through positive outcomes from significant experience in a complex role, requiring multiple knowledge and skills application.
- Able to Demonstrate knowledge and application of; 1. Legislative framework for safeguarding. 2. Contemporary health and social care economic and political local and national strategy and the implications for the Trust. 3.local and national strategy relating to safeguarding and the implications for the Trust.
- Able to demonstrate knowledge and/or skills in: Organisational vision and values – strategic objectives and current service delivery direction

- The ability to travel independently in accordance with Trust policy to work across all Trust locations and external venues.
- The ability to maintain professional nursing registration – meeting ongoing NMC practice and professional development standards and demonstrating ongoing fitness to practice.
