Job description

We have a vacancy for an Associate Director - Energy & Sustainability to join our Environmental Management Team based in London. Our award-winning team provides a range of assessments (Energy Reports, Overheating Assessments, Daylight Analysis, BREEAM Assessments, Sustainability Statements, LCA etc) to a multitude of clients, supplying valuable services to lead design teams and clients through the complexities of the planning process.

We’re RPS, our projects are all around you. We define, design and manage projects that create shared value to a complex, urbanising and resource-scarce world. Our people are our success. We need people who share our passion on solving the problems that matter. And where you’ll be supported every step of the way. Here is where you come to build a career.

What you’ll be doing

You will be responsible for managing client relationships and contributing to the team's wider business and development initiatives. There is an emphasis to provide outstanding advice and support to our clients that goes beyond the normal consultant-client relationship. The role requires good leadership and project management attributes, the ability to lead a team of consultants, including professionals and trainees, and being the day to day link between the Project Director and the client, and the ‘go to’ person for both the client and your business unit directors.

You will be expected to manage all aspects of a job, and develop a strong working relationship with other members of the project/design team and with the client.
With climate change impacting us all and Net Zero Carbon initiatives commencing across the UK, you can be part of making a difference and solving problems that matter.

Who we are looking for

  • Strong and extensive experience of carrying out and managing energy and sustainability assessments (e.g. BREEAM, Sustainability Statements) on a range of projects, preferably within a consultancy context.
  • A high level of technical knowledge of current and future legislation in relation to UK law and best practice e.g. NPPF, Part L and the London Plan.
  • Strong and substantial experience in carrying out Energy (SAP, SBEM) calculations and Energy Reports for planning purposes. Experience of thermal bridging.
  • Technical professional expertise in one of more of the following microclimate services; wind, daylight/sunlight, glare/glint or rights to light assessments.
  • Accredited for OCDEA/NDEA and/or BREEAM and CEEQUAL
  • Very good communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills
  • Demonstrable mentoring & coaching skills
  • Ability to identify opportunities and secure new business / clients in collaboration with the wider team / Directors
  • Chartered status through relevant professional body (e.g. CIBSE, IEMA)
