About the Nestle Production Technology Centre
NPTC Confectionery York is Nestlé’s leading centre for confectionery Research & Development, working in partnership with 3 development centres in Chile, China and Ivory Coast. In York we are a team of 170 amazing people from over 30 nationalities and a variety of academia. We have a strong focus on inclusion and belonging, an active Wellness program and we support 50 factories globally. Our objective is to provide ideas, technical innovation and scientific support (for product, process and technology) to continually improve and grow the confectionery business.
Position Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic Confectioner to join our Nestlé Production Technology Centre in York on 12-month placement 2 days a week. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to gain experience and hands on exposure to new innovative concepts in line with our Confectionery business.
You will support on pivotal projects that are revolved around the development and improvement of new and existing confectionary products, in collaboration and with the wider Project team. You will work in the experiential kitchen, Pilot Plant, and industrial scale equipment, whilst following the commercial requirements.
A day in the life of an Associate Confectioner
The successful candidate will be exposed to a variety of opportunities to help gain first-hand experience of working with our confectionary products, sharing ideas and findings. You will work with the product teams to hand make new confectionery concepts, as well as hand tempering, moulding and dipping chocolate to create new product concepts. Whilst working with small scale kitchen equipment to create prototypes.
You will also ;
- Identify and develop new confectionary products in line with the business needs Confectionary strategy, in-order to be presented to the business on time
- Execute accurately the samples according to the specifications communicated by the PTC Project Manager and keep clear written records of recipe and process
- Gain understanding with working with suppliers for Confectionary ingredients.
- Ensure documentation (SOPs, trial data sheets) is kept up to date and used effectivly
- Carry out all the duties in compliance with the PTC safety & hygiene requirements of the kitchen and make sure is up to date with knowledge in QA, safety & hygiene requirements.
- Follow and apply Good Manufacturing Practices.
What will make you successful?
You will have a natural interest in recipes ingredients and chocolate! And will need excellent organisation skills, a strong work ethic, as well as a talent for multi-tasking.
You will have;
- Experience of working in Patisserie/bakery would be advantageous
- IT Skills - with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- An interest or expertise
- Ideally will have or working towards a Confectionary Qualification
