Job Introduction

We are looking for Assistant Technical Producers to join the Music team in BBC Audio Technical Production. The role includes working on live music, speech recordings and broadcasts in studios and various other venues. You will also work on a range of live and recorded studio work and editing sessions for BBC national radio stations. An interest in and passion for music and sound is a prerequisite for the role. Successful candidates will be working across all national music stations.

Technical Production is part of BBC Audio which is part of BBC Radio Group. There are Operations teams in London, Bristol, Birmingham and Salford. This is a department of around 100 staff. The majority of the audio for the national BBC Radio stations is handled by BBC Audio Technical Production at some stage in the journey to air.

BBC Audio Technical Production covers a diverse range of events including Glastonbury, The Proms, The Olympics, comedy performance, opera, State events and concerts, as well as complex one-off events at home and abroad. We produce a large amount of studio based output for our Radio Networks.

We manage and run events in the BBC Radio Theatre, operate specialist music studios at Maida Vale and cover broadcasts and recordings from concert venues and festival sites across the UK.

Main Responsibilities

Assistant Technical Producers are expected to have the required knowledge and experience to undertake all the duties as described in the job description, working in radio studios, workshops, suitably equipped office areas and where appropriate on outside broadcasts. You’ll be required to balance and control radio shows and be confident working on your own in a live studio. You will need to work well as part of a team and you will also be relied upon to play your part in the delivery of the audio aspects of productions on time and to budget.

Are you the right candidate?

The ideal candidates will demonstrate they have well-developed craft skills. You should demonstrate an enthusiastic interest in the professional audio field and show that you keep pace with new developments. You will also need to demonstrate you have good communication skills and experience of managing relationships both within the team and outside. You should have good planning and organisational skills, and demonstrate a flexible approach to work.
