mirus means wonderful and extraordinary and we are looking for a Wonderful and Extraordinary Assistant Team Manager to join our Respite Team.
mirus is a not-for profit organisation registered with the Charity Commission to provide specialist support to adults , 18+ with a disability. We were established in 1985 and our years of experience mean we have an excellent reputation in the sector. We work in partnership with families and other professionals bringing strength and quality to what we do.
The mirus respite service was established in 1987 to give unpaid carers and families some time to themselves, while their loved ones get to enjoy time doing the things they love. We like to think of it as a time for everyone to recharge, refresh and enjoy themselves!
Our service provides respite to carers in the form of short terms stays for adults from the age of 18 with a learning disability, physical disability, autism, behaviours that may challenge and people experiencing mental ill health.
Our respite service in Cardiff is commissioned by the Local Authority. Our service is run from two properties and provides respite to carers in the form of short terms stays (and other various forms respite options) for adults from the age of 18 with a learning disability, physical disability, autism, behaviours that may challenge and people experiencing mental ill health.
We also provide a range of bespoke respite services to meet individual needs as an alternative to staying at either of our respite houses, such as support at home, community based support, weekend breaks away and holidays.
Our support services are person centred and focus on enabling people to achieve what matters to them ensuring that they maintain their wellbeing and play an active role in their local communities.
Our support services are guided by the Social Services and Wellbeing Act (2016), Regulation and Inspection of Social Care Act (2016), the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act (2015), current Health and Safety, Employment Law and Data Protection legislation / regulations, and the contractual requirements placed on us by Health and Social Care commissioners.
Through our short stay breaks aim to offer guests the chance to-
- experience a variety of social and recreational activities
- build and develop friendships as part of a community support network
- experience shared living
- have a break from the family home
- learn independent living skills
And for carers we aim to-
- provide Carers with planned breaks throughout the year
- where we can support families to deal with unexpected life events where a person may require a short break in an emergency
- involve Carers and the person they care for in the continued evaluation and development of the service
Key deliverables:
- Has the ability to contribute to providing a high quality service and have a strong vision that can be applied to all aspects of your work.
- Maintains professional working relationships with People We Support, families, members of Multi-Disciplinary Teams and other stakeholders.
- Develops and adopts a person-centred approach to services and identifies individual goals and aspirations that enables the achievement of positive outcomes and increased independence.
- Is confident and strong; can lead, direct and role model best practice to support staff to develop independence, develop skills and promote positive risk taking.
- Can harness the skills and abilities of support staff to support them with their learning and development to fulfil their roles and responsibilities with a sense of achievement.
- Communicates effectively and has good oral and written communication skills ensuring accurate records are kept.
- Is able to manage their work time effectively and prioritise their workload whilst being flexible to adapt when necessary.
- Is able to monitor and quality assure support services.
Essential criteria
- To be registered with Social Care Wales
- To have completed or in the process of completing QCF level 2 in Health and Social Care.
- To have experience of using IT systems to ensure effective communication and planning.
- To be able to demonstrate experience within health and social care.
