Assistant/Researcher – Job Description
Reporting to – Ben Bowie (Director) and Analysts
Salary – £22,000-28,000 (depending on candidate)
Status – Full-time contractor (leading to employee role)
Location – Work from home
TMP Public is a small international non-profit that solves complex social and environmental problems. Our priority is improving understanding of and preparedness for the way that climate change will impact our institutions, systems, and lives over the next decade. We work with foundations, consultancies, businesses, NGOs, and governments to deliver concrete progress in areas like food security, critical mineral supply chains, biodiversity protection and infrastructure planning.
The Role
We are looking for a responsible, organized, and motivated person to be an
Assistant/Researcher, supporting the work of our Analysts.
The primary responsibility of the job will be to provide organisational support, in addition to performing diverse qualitative and quantitative research tasks that include:
- Investigating critical mineral supply chains, and to a lesser extent food supply chains and biodiversity issues.
- Identifying and evaluating sources of data and analysis.
- Supporting the production of reports and presentation materials for external use.
- Identifying possible partners and targets.
- Researching and producing briefs on a wide range of topics which are likely to be unfamiliar, from water management to mineral procurement.
This job requires you to work independently and affords a high level of flexibility. The company is based in the UK but operates globally, with time zone challenges to match.

Qualifications and skills
- Strong organisational skills are required to schedule meetings and to communicate effectively internally between TMP staff and externally with our diverse partner network.
- Strong analytical and research skills are required; a relevant degree is desirable
(e.g. in mining, geography, politics, economics, sociology, anthropology, development studies).
- Fluent English and ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Confidence in using IT (proficiency in MS Office required, additional skills such as with geoprocessing, statistical analysis or other relevant tools desirable).
- Willingness to travel, including to remote rural areas of emerging markets.
- Experience in any one of mining, international development, environmental management, climate, data science or financial investment is preferred.
- Experience of remote working is preferred.
- Fluency in another language is desirable.
