ASSISTANT PSYCHOLOGIST

Salary £22,950 – £24,225.00 per annum

Permanent, Full Time, 37.5 hours per week.

G4S in Wales are a key provider of criminal justice services- operating in both the custodial and community sectors. We pride ourselves on the quality of our provision and we consistently seek to work alongside and in partnership with a range of other providers in the voluntary (third), public and private sectors.

We have developed services which are focused on identifying ways to maximise positive impact and make the most effective use of available resources by working with other agencies on common objectives. In this way we are increasingly able to meet wide ranging and complex needs in the most appropriate way.

We have a commitment to research, evaluation and review of evidence based initiatives.

We value and, where possible, contribute to research into reducing re-offending and therefore we recognise the importance of understanding the wider environment in which individuals operate and this informs us about how best to engage, support and help people with change.

We seek to employ people with drive and energy and a real interest in innovation and teamwork – working beyond traditional organisational boundaries.

This is an exciting opportunity to support the work of the Future 4 diversionary service across South Wales by providing structured psychological interventions to service users with co-occurring needs relating to mental health, wellbeing, neurodiversity and substance misuse. As a member of our Future 4 team, you will play a critical role in enabling people with identified co-occurring needs to build positive futures and healthy lifestyles and focus on moving away from the criminal justice system.

You will hold a caseload of young adults who you will work collaboratively with to enable them to achieve objectives set for their time in service as well as capturing and communicating information relating to their safety and risk. Our service provides holistic support where a range of interventions and activities are collectively designed to ensure that each individual can engage in a support plan that meets their needs, with options including CBT based group work, physical exercise programmes, mindfulness based activities, harm reduction and abstinence based support, and diversionary activities. This role will add significant value to our approach by undertaking psychological assessment and screening, and providing structured interventions to our young adults. The roles will benefit from structured monthly supervision and support from our Psychology partner, Forensic Psychology Consultancy Ltd.

We are looking for candidates who believe in a positive psychology approach and firmly believe that people can change and become the best versions of themselves. The role can be challenging but we strive to support people at Future 4 to focus on improving their wellbeing, and building good lives and positive futures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Completing psychological assessments/screening tools to identify treatment needs.
  • Development of individualised treatment/therapy plans to address needs identified during assessment(s).
  • Managing a caseload of people identified with co-occurring needs, by providing a set number of treatment sessions focused on their identified need, and supporting the planning of their ongoing support journey with their allocated Dyfodol caseworker.
  • Delivering structured group and 1:1 interventions, designed in collaboration with FPC, and contributing to the delivery of the substance misuse support programme, including facilitation of groups and organising/running activities.
  • Providing self-help materials, reviewing progress and making onward referrals and/or signposts for further information.
  • Conducting reflective practice with Dyfodol caseworkers in the event of disengagement from treatment/service, to establish gains made and opportunities for future engagement.
  • Contribute to quarterly reflective practice thematic review publications.
  • Delivering training to staff members to raise awareness of dual diagnosis and other aspects of the service.
  • Ensure that risk information is communicated widely within G4S Community and other key stakeholders such as probation, the police and community based substance misuse services
  • Engage in regular supervision with Chartered Forensic Psychologists and Forensic Psychologists in Training.
  • Promote effective communication and integration with all relevant departments within G4S Community
  • Work collaboratively with clinical teams and substance misuse nurses in the provision of clinical treatment
  • Contribute to the delivery of key commissioning objectives, ensuring work is completed in time and to a high standard in line with contractual requirements
  • Ensure all case information is accurately recorded and communicated via appropriate case management systems such as Palbase.
  • Have involvement in other projects across G4S Community as appropriate.

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Skills:

  • An interest in pursuing a career within the field of Psychology.
  • A relevant academic qualification within the area of Psychology.
  • Experience of working within a custodial/mental health setting.
  • A good understanding of how to support individuals with dual diagnosis.
  • Full driving licence and consistent access to own vehicle.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience of working with individuals with dual diagnosis.
  • Experience of working within a psychology team.
  • A post graduate qualification in a related area of Psychology.
  • Have prior experience of delivering structured psychological interventions.
