An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologist in inpatient services for Older Adults. Laurel ward is a 13 bedded unit for older people experiencing an acute phase of psychological distress and/or mental illness.
This post is fixed term for 12 months and will provide the opportunity for the post holder to work in an inpatient acute setting and carry out neuropsychological and structured psychological assessment interviews, psychometric testing and be involved in group work, alongside nursing staff. There is weekly supervision from the Consultant Psychologist and opportunities to gain valuable experience in acute care for those interested in a career in Clinical Psychology.
Main duties of the role include carrying out psychological assessments and interventions under the supervision of the Clinical Psychologist. The post holder will also have the opportunity to complete neuropsychological assessments to aid the diagnosis of cognitive impairments and dementia. They will also carry out audit and research tasks as indicated by the clinical team and supervisor. Formulation and behavioural support planning (Positive Behaviour Support) is integral to the role where there is an opportunity to work closely with the nursing team to support patient care.
