Band 5 Assistant Psychologist (Full time, 1.0 WTE)

This is an extremely exciting opportunity to work at the regional level supporting the team who supports all the neonatal units across London and working directly to support practitioners in those units. The London Neonatal ODN is looking to recruit an assistant psychologist to provide support to the lead psychologist and to the allied health professional and psychology team.

This post will be involved in developing resources to support the development of new neonatal psychology services across London. They will also be responsible for supporting with the roll out of training to psychological professionals and allied health professionals working in neonatal care across London.

The post will offer regular supervision with a Clinical Psychologist which will allow the post-holder to develop their clinical skills, reflective thinking and to understand important issues affecting the NHS and service delivery. There are multiple opportunities to contribute to service audit and quality improvement research projects. All posts are an excellent opportunity for those wishing to apply for the Clinical Doctorate in Psychology and provides exceptional opportunities for Continued Professional Development, such as BPS-accredited training courses.

This post has multiple parts:

  • Clinical: The post holder will be required to support and enhance the psychological care of service users and carry out duties under supervision, such as helping to organise groups or develop resources. under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.
  • Quality improvement, audit and data: Collating and analysis of service data and any other duties as delegated by the Clinical Supervisor / Team. This will include the following: Supporting with data collection and analysis from psychological professionals and support clinicians in its implementation and to assist in the conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit projects, Quality Improvement (QI) Projects teaching and project work.
  • Training coordination: To assist in the roll out of a training offer for Psychological professionals and allied health professionals Manager / Service Manager.

This post is such an exciting opportunity to experience how psychology is making a difference at a regional and national level. Come and join the London Neonatal Operational Delivery Network which works with 27 neonatal units across London. We support the staff and the teams who support the babies and families accessing neonatal care.

This post was funded as a result of the Ockenden report and the recommendations to better support babies and families. It is also in line with the Neonatal Critical Care review (NCCR) which called for ODNs and trusts to better support families and for staff to be neonatal experts. This assistant post will directly contribute to London meeting these aims, through the provision of a programme of training for Psychological professionals and allied health professionals working in neonatal units. The post will also work with psychological professionals across London to support audit and research and understand better how we are supporting families and how we might develop provision.

You will be a key player in developing, delivering and evaluating provision to neonatal units.There will be a focus on ensuring that our work improves people’s understanding of the role and value of psychological professionals and allied health professionals

Post-holders will contribute to regular and ongoing evaluation using qualitative and quantitative methods, and there will be an emphasis on collecting a variety of comprehensive information throughout the project. As well as the categories of focus listed above, demographic information, levels of satisfaction and patient feedback will be key targets for data collection, in order to understand how the service is meeting the needs of the service users, and providing opportunities for improvement via regular feedback from key stakeholders.

The post-holders will also work on developing resources, such as leaflets and brief videos, and there will be opportunities to deliver consultation and training to MDT colleagues.
