Job description

The Beacon unit is a specialist adolescent inpatient unit with 12 beds in Edgware catering for adolescents who require mental health services where they cannot be safely managed in the community.

The unit is multidisciplinary and a range of therapeutic approaches are offered. The aim is to support clients to safely move back to the community with the minimum time needed spent in hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled psychology graduate to join this dynamic multidisciplinary team.

Applicants for this post will have a 2.1 or 1stclass honours degree in Psychology or equivalent and experience of working in a clinical setting with a mental health population.

The role will include individual and group work and the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate some experience of previous work with groups in a psychological setting. The post-holder will be required to routinely collect feedback from parents and carers and produce reports that will assist in monitoring the quality targets set by commissioners and contribute to the development of the service.

Under supervision the post-holder will undertake individual psychological interventions and assist in the running of groups with a variety of professionals including psychology, occupational therapy, family therapy, music therapy and nursing. The post-holder needs to be flexible and good at working in a team as at times nursing staff will need assistance on the wards and there may be some evening work. The post-holder needs to have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and be highly motivated to work with this client group.
