Job description

The Faculty of Education wishes to appoint an Assistant Professor (formerly known as University Lecturer) with a specialism in teachers' professional learning. The position is a permanent, established post. It offers an exciting opportunity for a research-active educator to join a leading national and international centre engaged in teaching and educational research. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding research, scholarship, and teaching in initial and/or continuing teacher education, with a specialism in one or more of the following areas: pedagogy (subject-specific, phase-specific, or cross-cutting); mentoring; curriculum.

The successful candidate will be expected to make an outstanding contribution to the Faculty's research in initial and/or continuing education, and to provide an inspirational, enthusiastic model of outstanding teaching, built from experience in a university and/or school setting. They will contribute to the primary and/or secondary PGCE programmes, supporting those learning to teach children in the 3-11, or 11-18 age range respectively. They will also contribute to the Faculty's practitioner professional development, Master's and doctoral provision for already-qualified teachers and educators, with opportunity also to teach within the Faculty's undergraduate programme. The successful candidate will have experience and expertise in supporting practitioner research and inquiry, particularly in case study, action research, design-based research and/or quasi-experimental approaches.

The Faculty of Education is a member of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) at the University of Cambridge. It is one of the largest communities of educational researchers and teacher educators in the country and offers a wide range of academic expertise which covers all stages of formal education. The Faculty's diverse community is complemented by a long-established Partnership with around 250 schools, offering multiple opportunities for collaborative research and reciprocal learning. Central to the work of this Partnership is the Faculty's PGCE programme, which has consistently been recognised by Ofsted as being of outstanding quality (grade 1).
