Position Overview Location: London, Devon House (St Katharine Docks) Salary £38,000 - £45,000 per annum for Assistant Professor; up to £60,000 per annum for Associate Professor. Consideration will be given for a higher salary for an exceptional candidate in this subject area. Benefits: Generous benefits package including 25 days holiday allowance pro rata (excl. Bank holidays), group life assurance, group income protection, pension schemes and private healthcare (optional) Start: 1 September 2023 or ASAP; candidates will be interviewed on a rolling basis The Role Northeastern University London wishes to appoint an Assistant Professor (Teaching & Research) in Data Science. The appointee will be teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students and conduct innovative research in the area. We wish to appoint a specialist in areas of Data Science including, but not limited to, financial technology, data-driven humanities and social sciences, cognitive science, information visualisation, and data mining. Preference may be given to candidates with active interests in the relationship of Data Science to one or more of the following areas: use of software and technology; employment contexts; diversity and inclusion. Core duties will include: development and provision of innovative and inclusive teaching in relevant areas of Computer Science at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (e.g. Programming with Data, Foundations of Data Science, Data Engineering, Human Computer Interaction, and Information Visualisation); world-leading disciplinary and interdisciplinary research; and professional service commensurate to career stage. We particularly encourage applications from those with an interest in innovative teaching, learning and assessment; those with experience of supporting a wide variety of students; and those belonging to groups underrepresented in UK higher education. We are open to appointing on a reduced fraction or job-share basis, subject to our business needs. Department Computing, Mathematics, Engineering, and Natural Sciences is undergoing a major growth at Northeastern University London. It is home to four interdisciplinary undergraduate dual degree (in UK and US) programs in the areas of Data Science, Data Science and Politics, Computer Science and Business, and Computer Science and Philosophy; and four postgraduate programs in the areas of AI, Data Science, Software Engineering, and Digital Leadership. The department is a major part of Northeastern University's first-year student mobility program, offering undergraduate courses in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Healthcare, striving to inspire and equip entering students to be outstanding scientists. Person Specification Criteria Qualifications PhD completed, or near completion (all but dissertation), or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area (essential) FHEA status, or equivalent, achieved or expected (desirable) A teaching qualification (FHEA or equivalent).
