We look after over 14000ha of land in the East of England, including incredible places for wildlife such as Ashridge Estate, Blakeney Point, Orford Ness and Wicken Fen, striving to ensure they are rich in biodiversity and amazing for our visitors - You’ll cover these portfolios across the region and many more and will travel to properties on a weekly basis.

Your contractual location is flexible, we're happy for you to work at any of our regional hubs or properties, that are appropriate for this role. There will be an opportunity to explore and agree a hybrid working arrangement, which strike the right balance for you and the Trust.

What you'll be doing:You'll support our regional Nature Conservation Adviser and other internal consultants, in providing high quality nature conservation advice, primarily to site managers and our property teams.

Using your expertise in habitat surveying, mapping skills, and habitat assessments you'll help others understand the biological significance of our land. Often supporting, training, and mentoring teams and volunteers to take part in national wildlife monitoring schemes.

You’ll provide clear and sound advice on a wide range of conservation matters, including habitat management and creation. You'll produce habitat management plans to facilitate and guide standard process on properties.

You'll advise property teams, particularly Trust Building Surveyors, using your experience of protected species protection/mitigation to assist and in dealing appropriately with situations which arise concerning legally protected wildlife.


Who we're looking forWe'd love to hear from you, if you have the following:

  • Experience and strong understanding of ecology and conservation land management.
  • Knowledge of habitat restoration and creation projects and creating management plans.
  • Knowledge of relevant wildlife UK legislation (protected species and sites), policy and grant schemes.
  • Relevant skills and experience of undertaking biological field surveys, including plant ID.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills including ability to write concise and coherent reports.
  • Good knowledge and experience using GIS and databases.
  • Experience of effective teamwork, including working with volunteers, alongside ability to work independently and prioritise work schedule.
