The post holder will support the interpretation and reporting of data analysis as well as supporting the development of information systems required for the reporting needs of the Trust, including those in relation to selected areas of specialisation.
This will involve liaison with a diverse range of NHS staff to assess, guide and advise upon their information requirements and support the development and implementation of systems to meet these requirements.
The post holder will be required to monitor the quality of data relating to their selected areas of specialisation, rectifying irregularities as instructed and maintaining consistently high standards of work.
The post holder may supervise, train or manage other staff.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Assistant Information Analyst to work within the Performance & Information Team at Walsall Manor Hospital, to help support operational and strategic requirements. You will be asked to work closely with the operational services in ensuring the success of the department in delivering innovative, flexible and responsive services of the highest possible quality, to meet the ever changing challenges that face the NHS.
You will have, or will be able to develop quickly, a thorough understanding of the data captured within the NHS and be able to extract and present management information in a clear and concise way. You will need analytical and organisational skills and be able to work to tight deadlines. You should be educated to diploma level or have equivalent experience in an information related role. You should have strong interpersonal skills together with an ability to produce timely, accurate data reports.
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and brand new, state of the art Emergency Department is in the process of being completed.

1. Departmental Responsibilities
- To liaise with Managers and Staff at all levels to assess information and performance monitoring requirements.
- To provide, receive and communicate complex information to staff with a non-analytical/statistical background, within areas of specialisation. To advise, train and educate as appropriate to the needs of the professional.
- To cultivate and maintain good working relationships and communication with the relevant Trust managers and staff in relation to selected areas of specialisation to ensure that the Performance & Information Team is aware and responsive to Trust data requirements at all levels.
- To adhere to Team and Trust policies.
- To implement standard operating procedures and propose changes to practices and procedures for own area.
- To identify and propose changes to working practices as a result of new guidelines or legislation.
- To comply with national legislation within the Performance & Information Team i.e. Data Protection Act, Caldicott Principles.
- To exercise a personal duty of care in the safe use of computing and office equipment within Performance & Information Team.
- To take responsibility for line management of more junior staff. All aspects of line management including appraisals and one to one meetings, supported by more senior colleagues where required.
- To maintain an effective knowledge of relevant data flows in relation to selected areas of specialisation, from source through processing to report production to ensure accurate transfer and quality of data at all stages.
- To maintain knowledge of all relevant data and benchmarking that is available to the Performance & Information Team.
- To interrogate complex relational databases to produce information reports.
- To develop and routinely produce performance and service improvement monitoring reports.
- To ensure relevance, conciseness, completeness, clarity, accuracy and timeliness at all times when producing reports.
- To develop and produce ad-hoc and routine reports to support the business, service delivery, commissioning and clinical needs of the Trust.
- To complete Trust returns in relation to ICBs, NHS England, DH and other organisations as necessary.
- To quality assure any Trust returns completed and obtain appropriate approval and sign off by appropriate lead before submission as necessary.
- To ensure appropriate confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- To record, maintain and make available for audit the documentation of all operational procedures performed.
- To store work and data within appropriate systems regularly and effectively.
- To work on own initiative, deal with queries relating to data / information and to make judgements as to whether an analysis is of high quality, consistent, robust and accurate. To seek advice from Manager as appropriate.
- To adjust own activities to respond to changes in workloads. To prioritise conflicting and unpredictable demands for information requests, supported by more senior colleagues where required.
- To take an active role in demonstrating own activities to colleagues with less experience in own work area.
- To support creation of reports using appropriate systems to collect, collate and summarise data. Must develop and maintain information systems used for this key function.
- To support the development, maintenance and adaptation of data processes to be responsive to any need for change in data collection methods.
- To always maintain a high standard of work. To be able to maintain concentration for prolonged periods during data collection, processing and report writing.
- To support the information work of associated audits, surveys and research to support Trust staff and as part of the corporate development and planning process.
- To support the co-ordination of information requirements in line with contractual specifications.
- To support the customisation and development of existing internal database systems and Healthcare Trust data flows, to meet the evolving demands placed upon the data flow streams available for the operation of multiple information systems.
- To identify potential development recommendations for internal Information Department and other Corporate Data Systems used to improve effectiveness and meet reporting needs.
- To support the development of new databases as well as adaptation of other reporting systems to support new data flows required to meet national and local demands for data and information monitoring and performance issues.
- To support the implementation of data processing and reporting tools supplied by or provided in association with the Department of Health.
- To support the implementation of bespoke data processing, distribution and reporting systems supplied by outside bodies to meet the needs of the Trust.
- To support fault diagnosis, tracking, adaptation, design and resolution for internal database and reporting systems used in relation to areas of specialisation.
- To monitor the quality of data, to support investigation of data quality shortfalls and to support the development and correction at source; and support improvement strategies, where possible, to improve and maintain data quality shortfalls.
- To alert line manager to any identified operational data quality issues and assist in instigating further investigation, including liaison with Data Quality Team, wherever appropriate.
- To manage personal workload to ensure departmental and corporate priorities are satisfied and deadlines are met.
- To demonstrate flexibility to support the Team to provide comprehensive cover during core hours and ensure all required deadlines are achieved.
- To maintain effective and considerate working relationships with all departmental staff at all times.
