Job Title: Assistant Identification Officer
Salary: £28,511 to £30,504 plus a shift disturbance allowance of 20% and a location allowance of £1,721. You will receive £28,511 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £30,504 will be via incremental progression.

As an Assistant Identification Officer, you’ll have the opportunity to make a positive difference every day by supporting criminal investigations knowing you’ll have made a real difference to the lives of Londoners.
The purpose of this role is to carry out identification procedures in accordance with current law and force policy, ensuring that the Officer in Charge, Crown Prosecution Service and defence solicitors are liaised with, and the needs of witnesses are properly catered for.
Working for the Identification Command as part of Met Detention you will be responsible for delivering ID services across a defined geographical area of the MPS and the whole of the MPS when on duty at weekends.
Key Responsibilities
- Be able to act as a delegated person on behalf of the Identification Officer.
- Deal with enquiries relating to identification issues.
- Produce basic performance management information.
- Capture of suspect’s images for parades.
- Conduct and arrange Identification parades following procedures laid down in the Police & Criminal Evidence Act (PACE), Code D.
- Provide guidance and assistance to police Officers on matters surrounding identification.
- Effectively communicate with all relevant parties including outside agencies regarding matters of law and procedure.
- Manage conflict situations professionally and effectively.
- Attend Courts of Law on a regular basis to deliver evidence as a witness.
- Deal with all witnesses and victims in a courteous, respectful, and sensitive manner both within the suites and at their own address when required.
- Keep up to date with new legislation and stated cases.
- Operate and fully utilise all computer packages relating to information systems.
- Prepare accurate evidential paperwork for submission in relation to evidential court proceedings.
- Prepare a suitable file for each specific identification procedure.
Additional Information
Shift is Monday–Friday 0800-1600 and 1200-2000 shifts with Pan London cover which is currently one weekend in six. Working a shift does attract payment of a Shift Disturbance Allowance and Flexibility Allowance. You will be based within the ID Suite, although there may be the occasional requirement to conduct remote captures or showings elsewhere. The role may at times necessitate the need to work beyond standard working hours to undertake emergency procedures.

Essential Criteria
- A good standard of education including excellent numeracy and literacy skills.
- IT Literate and the ability to learn and use IT packages effectively.
- Proven ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure and to gather and record information effectively within set procedures, in a logical and easily understood format and style.
- Proven ability to work unsupervised.
- The ability to work within a team whilst being able to self-motivate.
- Proven relevant experience (i.e., IT or Photographic).
- Knowledge of databases used to record procedures e.g., Word, Outlook.
- Knowledge of stated cases that have an impact on identification.
- Safety requirements in relation to risk assessments on suspect.
- Must have capability to travel to different locations across the Force and undertake all assignments in a timely manner. Due to the requirement to work flexibly, unsocial hours and personal safety for lone working; public transport may not be available or suitable at these times. For this reason, a full UK driving licence is considered essential.
