Home based in Glasgow Region with frequent travel required to various sites
Monday- Friday 9-5pm
Salary up to £42,000 per annum dependent upon experience plus benefits
Here at Serco, we have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant HSEQ Superintendent (Marine) to join our current team based in Scotland.
As part of the Maritime Safety Compliance team, this role will provide HSEQ advice and guidance to Contract Managers assisting the maritime contracts with their responsibility for the health & safety of their staff, reviewing risk and safe systems of work on marine contracts are appropriately managed to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of sea and shore side staff.
Furthermore, the role of Assistant HSEQ Superintendent will support the maritime contract with their legal and general obligations with regards to health and safety.
The marine contracts are a complex mix of shore based, merchant shipping and Defence regulations which requires specialist landside and maritime HSEQ knowledge to link the legislative systems ensuring safe systems of work for sea and shore staff, effective risk analysis and thorough investigation reports.
Main Accountabilities:
To deliver a high standard of HSEQ expertise to the business derived from extensive experience in industry, the acquisition of HSEQ qualifications and the maintenance of high professional standards
- To drive operational efficiency, assurance improvements and best practice across the business in conjunction with your contract peers, planning for the effective management of risks Internal investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses
- Attend and participate in various regulatory forums
- Provide marine HSEQ specialist support to future Marine bid development
- Ensure company procedures to meet the requirements of ISM, ISO 9000, 14000. Assisting with contract peers to adhere to and maintain the standards
- Monitoring accident and near miss reports for trends and providing safety and environmental reports as required
- HSEQ input to marine contract management meetings as required
- Providing marine health and safety input to risk assessments, procedures and management systems
- Advice on and deliver HSE training in marine contracts as required.
- Lead auditor / audit team member for port audits.
- Assessing the impact of future marine health and safety regulations, owning, authoring and updating marine operating procedures
- Conduct vessel safety case reviews (where required) in accordance with plans.
- Provide SME lead in risk assessment process.
- Analysis of management systems outputs / data and providing reports internally and for customers
- Support the management of the Assure data base, data entry, procedures, regulatory reporting, monitoring reports to closure – training requirements – POC for Assure oversight group.
- Develop and support safety culture / behaviour improvement strategy and programmes in marine contracts.
- Point of contact for Serco Management System HSEQ processes – support the implementation of SMS standards in marine contracts.
What you’ll need to do the role:**
- *
Qualified safety professional with minimum NEBOSH Level 3 or equivalent (maintaining CPD) and / or other formal education combined with experience in a similar role

- Good all-round knowledge of HSEQ and maritime safety legislation
- Operational experience of both MOD (preferable) and commercial environment
- Incident investigation and production of reports
- Working and operating in an unionised environment
- Implementation, development and maintenance of Management Systems
- Experience of working with Vessel and company audits – both internal and external
- Experience of risk assessment and development and implementation of safe systems of work
- Previous experience auditing of landside facilities.
