OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking to recruit an Assistant Houseparent for our boarding house for Mid-August 2023. The ideal candidate will be able to provide exceptional pastoral care and support to our boarders. An ability to contribute to the school beyond the house is an advantage, but the prime focus of this role is the wellbeing of the boarders. The Assistant Houseparent helps create and maintain an atmosphere in which all pupils feel welcomed, happy, well-cared for and nurtured. The holder of this vital post will support the Houseparent in co-ordinating the pastoral, academic, spiritual and co-curricular development of the pupils in their care. The Assistant Houseparent will provide excellent, loco parentis care to our pupils, many of whom are far from home, and some with limited English.

Working Time:
The Assistant Houseparent works 6 days a week with one 24-hour period off each week and one weekend off every half term. This is a full-time position, including half terms, arrival / departure and preparation / clean up days at the beginning and end of each term, along with Bank Holidays when boarders are present, INSET days plus any agreed hours during the school breaks.
Due to the nature of the role you will contribute to the extensive boarding life of the school and will be expected to work beyond normal school hours including weekends and evenings throughout the year.
Overview:
Pupils boarding at Hereford Cathedral School enjoy being part of a boarding house with a warm, family atmosphere where we ensure they feel safe and well looked after throughout their time with us. Our exceptional pastoral care ensures a home-from-home experience for our students. The boarding house is situated near to Hereford city in a beautiful Georgian building, built around 1720. The fully refurbished property offers pupils the perfect combination of a historic English setting with modern amenities. The house is superbly equipped with a large common room, dining room, kitchen areas for making snacks and WiFi access throughout. The extensive grounds are ideal for group activities and for pupils to relax and explore. Overall responsibility for the management of WH will rest with the Houseparent. The role of Assistant Houseparent is to support the Houseparent in the running of the House, specifically in helping to create and maintain an atmosphere in which all pupils feel welcomed, happy, well-cared for and nurtured. The Assistant Houseparent will also deputise for the Houseparent during their absences. The Assistant Houseparent is expected to play an active role in the life of the House, have regular contacts with the pupils and take a genuine interest in their pastoral care and academic progress.
