David Davies Resources Ltd is a small business in Shrewsbury. We are a professional, agile, rewarding business to work with. Our goal is to Produce of safe, quality, nutrient-rich milk from happy, healthy organic cows on a grass based system in sunny Shropshire.
Assistant Herdsperson
Our Farm
Davies Dairies is a 300-cow organic dairy herd with followers. We run a split block calving system, two very tight block intervals of 9-week mating to give us an all year round milk supply. We have a 30/60 Waikato herringbone parlor and fantastic grazing infrastructure with concrete sleeper tracks throughout the property. The farm has won the Soil Farm of the Year award previously and has fantastic ability to grow a large amount of grass. We pride ourselves on a low-cost grass based system where extra feed input is minimal and the key is keeping the system as simple as possible, including wintering outdoors on kale. We are currently investing heavily in the farm in preparation for expansion in herd size.
Your role
As an Assistant Herdsperson you will learn all aspects of the farm’s systems and get involved in a variety of tasks including Milking, cow treatments, calf management, grass management, feeding, fencing while supporting the Herd Manager in the day-to-day management of the herd. There is room for development into management over the next few years as the farm expands.

Requirements:
- Must be seeking a long-term career in the dairy sector.
- Must have a genuine interest in New Zealand based farming systems.
- Must have good communication skills.
- Must have a high degree of professionalism and discretion.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must have patience, tact, compassion, tact, discretion, confidentiality, confidentiality and integrity.
- Must be keen to learn and develop.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with strong work ethic.
- Must have a passion for working with cows.
- Must be able to work weekends on occasion.
- This position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion.
Location
Our farm is 1 minute away from Minsterley where there is a local primary school, pub, shops,
and a butchers. There is a local Hunt and football club in Minsterley as well as plenty of walking and mountain bike trails in the beautiful hills that surround the village. Shrewsbury is the biggest local town which is 20 minutes away and has everything you would expect from a large market town.
