NFP grows berries cherries and asparagus supplying major supermarkets, our own farm shop in season and other private sales.

NFP is seeking a passionate, plant-savvy horticulture person to help us grow our berry crops and to delight our customers with fantastic tasting produce.

In this position, you will work closely with the Production Director to plan and implement work activities relating to plant growing, irrigation, feeding and all related activities to produce fantastic crops. You will be monitoring pump stations and feed rigs to ensure we achieve our target production yields of the highest quality. Interacting closely with team supervisors concerning overall production operations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Monitor plant growth and quality daily within assigned area.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Monitor crops and provide growing reports.
  • Manage and maintain a watering schedule with the assistance of automatic irrigation controllers.
  • Assess watering requirements based on individual crop needs.
  • Work with other assistants to maintain, and continuously evaluate an IPM program.
  • Monitor pest and disease activity and maintain records.
  • Monitor nutritional status of the growing media and plant growth requirements.
  • Assess results of fertilizer applications based on plant growth and test results.
  • Develop fertilizer experiments to further optimize plant growth.
  • Monitor, maintain and repair equipment and facilities used in production.
  • Perform regularly scheduled inspections of irrigation systems to ensure functionality and uniformity of water delivery.
  • Monitor fertilizer/chemical injection systems.
  • Perform special projects, as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Follow NFP Ltd. Safety Policy.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Horticulture qualification preferred.
  • 1-2 years of work experience with plants.
  • Driving licence cat B
  • This is a hands-on position that requires activities throughout the farm. The work involves bending and lifting.
  • Basic computer skills are required for growing-related tasks to manage feed rigs and water cycle adjustments.
  • English at a conversation level is highly desirable.

Performance Requirements:

Must maintain a level of performance equivalent to company standards, that being a “Meets Expectations” in all areas of your performance evaluations (Self and Management reviews).
