We have an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Financial Accountant, to work within the Finance & Management Information Section of the Corporate Business Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat.
The Finance and Management Information Section (FMIS) forms part of the Corporate Business Division, which has responsibility for a wide range of corporate services in the Commonwealth Secretariat. FMIS has overall responsibility for the financial management of the Commonwealth Secretariat’s annual budget of approximately £40 million.
The Secretariat’s Funds include the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation and the Commonwealth Youth Programme as well as the New York Joint Office and Commonwealth Small States Office in Geneva.
The successful candidate will support the Financial Accountant in developing and maintaining the quality and accuracy of financial accounting information for the Secretariat. Other key responsibilities include monthly reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts, assisting the Financial Accountant in the preparation for the annual external audit of the financial statements and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures. S/he will also be responsible for the day-to-day Treasury management function.
To be considered, you will need a degree in finance, business administration or a related finance discipline or CIMA/ ACA/ ACCA qualified, or part-qualified and actively undertaking professional studies. You will also need 5 years’ experience in a similar accounting position; good experience in preparing balance sheet reconciliations as well as preparation of month end and audited Financial statements; and good experience of fixed asset accounting.
Experience of working with Treasury management and foreign banks including bank reconciliations is also a requirement. Ideally you will have working knowledge of IPSAS, and CODA financials or similar accounting package. This is a customer-focused role which requires the ability to work in a flexible environment, and the ability to organise your own workload whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
