We have an exciting opportunity to join our innovative BBC Audio team as an Assistant Editor on a 12-month fixed term contract, covering a period of parental leave until mid-2024.
About the BBC Audio team
The BBC Audio team is part of Penguin Random House Audio, the UK’s leading audiobook publisher, where we are dedicated to making the very best audiobooks. At BBC Audio, we curate collections of BBC Radio’s spoken word content and publish these via audiobook retailers.
In addition to its extensive backlist catalogue, BBC Audio publishes a wide range of entertainment drawn from recent radio programming and the BBC archive. Comedy titles include Hancock’s Half Hour, The Goon Show, Round the Horne, Cabin Pressure, Ed Reardon’s Week, Just a Minute and I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue. The realms of fantasy are depicted in Doctor Who, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia. There’s radio drama based on the works of some of our most popular and significant writers including Shakespeare, Agatha Christie, Anthony Trollope, Arthur Conan Doyle, Samuel Pepys and Alan Bennett. History, science and culture epics include A History of the World in 100 Objects, This Sceptred Isle and The Making of Music.
The Assistant Editor will play a key role in ensuring our audio publishing schedule runs smoothly, and that we are making the most of every commercial opportunity in the BBC’s radio output.
The Opportunity
This is a dynamic and varied role where you will be responsible for taking curated collections of BBC comedy and drama programmes through to audiobook publication.
You can expect to be leading on a number of audio titles, working with the team around you in marketing, sales and operations. Responsibilities will include:
briefing cover designs,
checking and editing sales text,
checking/writing intro and outro material to ensure a smooth listening experience,
building relationships with key contacts at the BBC
You will also have the opportunity to research, curate and commission your own new releases, working with the senior team.
What you’ll bring
You’re likely to have some editorial or audio experience. Even if you haven’t, if you’re a keen audiobook or radio listener and have a real interest in stories and ideas for the audio format, we want to hear from you.
A strong team player able to communicate effectively to a wide range of people, you’ll also be organised and proactive, able to keep on top of your multiple deadlines and ensure others deliver on theirs. You’ll have a keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy, plus excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Salary: £29,500 - £ 32,500 depending on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus benefits.
