The Assistant Director of Culture and OD will have a profound effect on the evolution of our culture and therefore your values will be the most important determining success factor.

The role has the expectation of making an immediate and positive difference by being at the heart of driving forward our vision and values. Through the OD team and as part of our OD Faculty you will lead the next phase of delivering our Culture and OD Strategy.

Professionally accountable to the Director of Culture and OD, you will have an autonomous remit with responsibility for Organisational Development and Culture strategies, plans and policies and their implementation, further developing our Leadership Development offer, embedding of our THRIVE values in all we do.

The role will be shaped around core values and competencies whilst playing to your own strengths and experience.

The selection process will be values based and interviews will take place on the 16th March 2023.

Working to the Director of Culture and Organisational Development the post holder will have lead responsibility for the design, delivery and sustainability of Organisational Development and Leadership Development activities that are strategically aligned to organisational priorities.

Through the Culture and OD team and OD Faculty, a key feature of the role is to lead and evaluate the delivery of our Culture and OD Strategy, including embedding our THRIVE values in all that we do including our strategies, policies processes and how we behave. Enhancing our Leadership Development offer and delivering proactive and reactive OD support and interventions to our teams and leaders.

The post holder has a pivotal role in influencing and improving Bedfordshire Hospitals as a place to work and receive care through creating an environment where everyone can THRIVE.

In our local system the post holder will initiate and facilitate effective partnerships within the BLMK ICS to influence the culture agenda, share good practice and bring about positive systems change that improves working lives and the communities we serve.

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital services to a growing population of around 700,000 people living across Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas across two busy hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. Both hospital sites offer key services such as A&E, Obstetrics-led Maternity and Paediatrics.

Continually develop the Culture and OD strategy delivery plan and establish systems to demonstrate successful delivery including communications and performance reporting.

Provide highly specialist expertise in Culture and OD keeping abreast of and leading research and development to enhance activities in this field as the basis for original thinking and/or research in approaching perceptions of culture.

Lead our response to specific Culture and OD issues and needs that emerge from within teams and departments, working closely with clinical and non-clinical leaders, HR Business Partners and Clinical Psychologists to formulate appropriate interventions.

Design and deliver OD interventions utilising a wide range of skills, tools and interventions such as coaching, team assessments, psychometric assessments, workshops, seminars and master classes to effect change, evaluating the interventions to assess and report the impact.

Develop strategies with the OD team that break down traditional organisational, functional and professional barriers. Oversee the listening exercise methodology to ensure that outcomes arising are fed back to staff, developing the skills and expertise of managers and clinical leaders to facilitate their own listening events.

Analyse highly complex behavioural situations that require interpretation to formulate a way forward for support and intervention where there may be no precedent and/or conflicting priorities exist.

Work with the transformation team in the design and delivery of our strategic service transformation and integration of teams across sites and services.

Lead and develop the newly established Culture and OD consultancy service, including line management of the OD team and development of the OD Faculty and associated activities.

Inspire a strong, effective team through clear vision, direction and motivational leadership.

Develop the internal consultancy skills of the OD Team, HR Business Partners and other Faculty members in order that the OD function is sustainable and flexible.

Establish a network of internal OD Associates and partners support their development and build OD capability and capacity by sharing knowledge and expertise.

Establish effective partnering arrangements with senior leaders and clinicians to ensure open and continuous dialogue that promotes understanding of the operational needs and priorities in the context of our values and OD best practice.
