Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Digital Marketing Communications serves as lead for the management of content strategy and development through various online and digital marketing communication platforms. Assists the Director in day-to-day operations, providing solutions, resources, design and consulting services. Performs initial intake on assigned projects and follows through on prescribed steps to completion, obtaining all reviews as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plans and creates consistent, functional and technically-sound online solutions to promote a wide range of university programs and marketing initiatives.
  • Works closely with department staff to promote brand adherence and user experience as well as incorporate all necessary resources needed to execute projects.
  • Manages priority projects for administrative and academic units as assigned.
  • Creates and executes project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Manages resources within budget and project schedule.
  • Assists Director with the day-to-day management of digital marketing platforms such as university websites, online profiles, social media platforms, digital advertising platforms and other supporting systems.
  • Works closely with other team members to prioritize, manage, and track the team’s support request log.
  • Leverages quality assurance tools and works closely with OIT staff as well as academic and administrative units to maintain content quality and effectiveness.
  • Serves as an essential member of the crisis communications team when needed, providing online messaging and technical support during incidents.
  • Helps define, communicate and enforce standards and best practices, and university community as needed.


This position is considered “essential personnel” and thus may be required to be in communication with other University Communications staff and senior administrators, and/or perform key work tasks, in off-hours or off-location conditions as required to execute special projects or critical communications as conditions may demand.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five (5) years of experience developing complex online products with client-side (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and server-side (PHP, .NET, etc.) technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of web assets including graphic types, video, and audio objects; basic JavaScript skills; and competency using Unix and NT file systems and management software for arranging files on a Web server.
  • General experience with content management systems (CMS), and familiarity with web editing programs such as Dreamweaver.
  • Broad understanding of contemporary web design trends as well as the techniques and functional processes required to execute them, including cross-browser and cross-device compatibility, mobile-first development processes, and responsive web and digital design.
  • An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer degree concentration in information technology, marketing, or communications-related areas.
  • Familiarity with accessibility requirements such as WCAG and Section 508.
  • Experience with search engine optimization, web and digital advertising and analytics tools.
  • Experience implementing online marketing techniques such as content personalization, advertising strategies such as A/B testing, and/or online and digital marketing and communication campaigns.
  • Solid understanding of web usability principles, and performance optimization techniques.
  • Significant project management experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of web and digital assets including graphic types, video, and audio objects.
  • Competency in using file transfer software for uploading and arranging files on a Web server.
