Job Summary
In advance of opening our brand new £10 million world class facility here in Tranent we are looking to expand our team of Animal Technicians. We are a progressive and close-knit team, working hard to ensure the safety of new medicines which target life threating and debilitating diseases and especially proud of our contribution in developing the Covid-19 vaccines.
We are passionate about our animals, striving to provide the best possible care with a culture of continuous improvement.
Candidates must have a passion for working with animals and share our commitment to their welfare. In this role you will perform routine and moderately complex animal husbandry and clinical observations in a regulatory compliant laboratory setting.

This is a physically demanding role so you need to know you will be active and on your feet for most of the working day. Here are some of things you will be involved with as an Animal Technician:
- Husbandry duties / delivering essential care and well-being services to the animals
- Positive interaction with animals, including providing treats, fruits and vegetables
- Participating in animal training programmes
- Handling animals for procedures
- Performing physical environment cleanliness and upkeep and maintaining accurate records
- Documenting animal behaviours and activities

Charles River is committed to helping our partners expedite their preclinical drug development with exceptional safety assessment services, state-of-the-art facilities and expert regulatory guidance. From individual specialty toxicology and IND enabling studies to tailored packages and total laboratory support, our deeply experienced team can design and execute programs that anticipate challenges and avoid roadblocks for a smooth, efficient journey to market. Each year approximately 120 investigational new drug (IND) programs are conducted in our Safety Assessment facilities.
