Finance Department
The Faculty of Environmental & Life Sciences finance team are seeking to appoint a full time (although will consider applications for 0.6 to 0.8 FTE) Assistant Accountant to work as part of a professional team responsible for all aspects of faculty finance. The position will suit someone with proven finance experience who can use their existing knowledge of finance administration and budget monitoring to support a wide variety of staff and activities. It is essential that you have excellent customer service skills, together with a pro-active approach in supporting staff and students.
We are looking for exceptional people who are flexible, responsive and highly motivated, with previous relevant work experience. You must be analytical and skilled at planning and organising and able to prioritise your own workload within a dynamic and complex environment.
The prime responsibility of the post will be to provide financial advice and support to Academic Staff on research and other funded awards. The post holder will work within a team with specific responsibility for one school within the Faculty. Responsibilities will include the provision of financial reports, the interpretation there of and advise accordingly; act as an approver for procurement of goods and services whilst promoting value for money and best practice; invoicing and other accounting transactions as required, including. You will also be required to answer budget enquiries, communicate with funders and advise on the use of appropriate procedures in given situations.
You should be well organised, analytical and self-motivated, a strategic thinker with excellent communication skills. You should be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel as well as comfortable working with financial systems (specific training will be provided). It would be an advantage to be working towards a professional accountancy qualification, support for which is available on a competitive basis.
