Job description

Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
Wastewater Asset Planner
An exciting and rewarding opportunity has arisen within the South Risk & Lifecyle Planning Team to become a Wastewater Asset Planner. The role of Asset Planner within the Strategic Customer Service Planning (SCSP) Directorate is to understand asset performance and risk to support the delivery of customer focussed interventions.
We are looking for someone to help shape strategies for the future, while involving stakeholders at all levels within and out with the business. This is an interesting role where you will be given the opportunity to enhance your technical and people skills by interacting with various areas of the Scottish Water business. You will be empowered to make decisions and take ownership for the assets you are responsible for while working in a collaborative and dynamic environment.
Future Transformation
SCSP are currently working on several transformation initiatives through Sustainable Investment Decision Making (SIDM). The Asset Planner Role will transform into a Wastewater System or Risk Planner role. The future role will support asset system level planning, linked with investment appraisals and management approaches (MA). The responsible person will align investment and pro-active asset inspection, enhancing asset data held within corporate systems to support future investment and risk profile modelling. This allows us to transform how we work and empower smarter investment choices which enable sustainable and inclusive economic growth to support a flourishing Scotland.
With Scottish Water’s new Hybrid Working guidelines, it is anticipated that a large part of the role can be carried out from the location that suits you best (including from your home) but that some travel will be required to other Scottish Water offices and occasional travel may be required to project sites. A driving licence is essential for this role.
What You’ll Need
We are looking for someone who has an understanding of Asset risk/ performance and their impact on the environment and customer service, as well as experience or awareness of wastewater services, asset management or water industry regulations. The candidate must be a proactive problem solver who strives to deliver sustainable results, who can effectively plan and prioritise skills based on evaluated evidence from a range of sources.
Excellent communication skills are key as we would like the successful role holder to build strong relationships by influencing and engaging communities across the business. Alongside this, written communication skills are also important as well-structured technical reports and presentations will be required, with specifications providing focussed information and actionable recommendations.
We will provide the candidate with training where required, however, it would be advantageous if the person has experience using tools such as PowerBi, ARC GIS (or equivalent), Maximo and Copperleaf to identify trends and insights as well as knowledge of core corporate systems including Astro and P3M (Unifier). It would also be beneficial to have knowledge of, or ability to relate to current operational/planning approaches and challenges within Scottish Water or the wider water industry and an understanding of the principles and components of ISO55000.
What You’ll Get
The salary band for this role is £35,384 £47,924 (depending on experience) and it is a full-time position.
You can also expect:
  • 38 days of holiday per year (including public holidays) with the option to buy 5 more

  • Life assurance scheme
