Job description
We have an exciting employment opportunity within the Financial Assessments Service. An Assessment Assistant post has been created to work within the Service Improvement and Support Team. Full training will be provided.
You will be helping those on a low income to pay rent and Council Tax through the administration of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support claims, changes in circumstances and reviews, and deal with any associated queries.
You will be part of a team who maximises the collection of Council Tax by ensuring liability and any reductions via discounts, disabled relief, exemptions and Council Tax Support are correct, maintained, reviewed and aligned to each other.
The Service Improvement and Support Team takes on various projects that require a financial assessment and may not be directly related to Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support. As a team member, you will be required to learn quickly and be flexible in adapting to new types of work to support the Financial Assessment Service as a whole.
We are looking for people who have the right competencies and behaviours as set out in the person specification and have the ability and willingness to learn. Testing of basic Maths and English will be part of the shortlisting process
A full training plan will be put in place for the various processes and over a period (at least a year) could lead to more complex assessments and the opportunity to be ready to apply for the next role as a Financial Assessment Officer.
As a customer focused service, you will be responsible for ensuring that excellent customer service is delivered to our most vulnerable residents. You will work with many internal teams to resolve issues so clear communication skills are essential.
