Job Title: Art Executive
Reports to: Art Manager
Hours: 15 hours per week, over 3 days
Location: Hybrid working between the DSWF Shalford Office, GU4 8JU, Home and occasionally London
Purpose of the role
This role supports the Art Manager to deliver David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation’s (DSWF’s) ambitious new art strategy.
The Art Executive will work closely with the Art Manager, Fundraising & Events team and Marketing team to deliver DSWF’s annual calendar of art activities (events, exhibitions, competitions, online galleries, campaigns) and in support of the DSWF fundraising and events portfolio. This will involve supporting colleagues, sharing workloads, knowledge and experience and contributing creatively and positively across the board to the wider DSWF team.
At all times, the Art Executive will be looking to drive income from the sale of art via the DSWF website shop, events programme or through other creative means to ensure that all avenues for income generation are optimised and annual targets are exceeded. This can be achieved by expanding DSWF’s network of artists and art enthusiasts at every opportunity.
Main duties and responsibilities
Art Trading & Stock Management
· With the Art Manager, work closely with the Marketing team and contribute to plans for promotion of art activities and events including supporter/buyer communications, press, e-news, DSWF magazine content, social media etc.
· Ensure the website shop inventory is up to date, content rich and SEO optimised, as well as curate the shop to maximise online sales
· Oversee website, email and telephone enquiries, to ensure that all art-related sales enquiries are dealt with in a timely manner and provide an end to end professional sales service
· Process sales via the website, the virtual payment terminal or by bank transfer according to customer preference and raise timely and accurate invoices
· Manage and undertake an efficient fulfilment system for all artwork sales orders including appropriate packaging and delivery solutions
· Maintain an accurate and current stock listing of DSWF owned and third party stock for sales and insurance purposes, including details of location and pricing
· With the Art Manager and Senior Fundraising Executive, work to create and manage a database of art buyers on the Raiser’s Edge database, adhering to relevant fundraising regulations, GDPR and codes of practice
· As part of the Art Team, create a communication and stewardship plan to keep the database of art buyers warm and abreast of all opportunities to purchase wildlife art through DSWF
Art Events
· Attend all DSWF art related events to maximise the income from the sale of art, as well as liaise and build relationships with potential art buyers
· Work with the Art Manager and Fundraising team to ensure art is a consideration at all in-person DSWF events, that the display and presentation of artwork at all events is to a high standard, and that the appropriate art-related audience for that event has been identified and invited
- Work with the Art Manager to agree the most appropriate stock to take to each event
- Manage the stocking in and out of all stock for events
- With the Finance Team, be responsible for the safety and accuracy of stock monitoring, sales sheets, and payments at all art related events
David Shepherd Artwork
· To respond to enquiries concerning the donation or sale of David Shepherd prints and merchandise, providing pricing and valuation information as applicable
· To deal with the donation of David Shepherd artwork including storage, addition to stock lists and listing for sale via the website if applicable
· To work with the Shepherd family, the Art Manager and the senior management team in the valuation and sale of David Shepherd original paintings including negotiation with sellers and buyers to ensure DSWF is a beneficiary to the sale
· To support the Art Manger with research on David Shepherd originals in order to produce comprehensive and accurate sales sheets and catalogue raisonne
- You will support the Art Manager to ensure that the David Shepherd Original Circle is updated and its members well managed and engaged
Artist Engagement
· Work with the Art Manager to research and select new wildlife artists to work with DSWF for website sales, events and other art campaigns
· With the Art Manager, create and manage a database of artists on the Raiser’s Edge database and to develop and undertake an artist communication and stewardship plan
· Work with selected artists in the selection of artwork, pricing, images and marketing collateral for the Artist of the Month and other sales promotions
· Respond to new artist enquiries and ensure they are correctly assessed and allocated
· Produce commercial participation agreements for donating artists and to manage the ongoing relationship
· Work with the Finance Team to ensure prompt and accurate artist payments when sales are made
· Liaise with existing artists to report sales made
Holiday: 25 days per annum. Bank Holidays also provided, and an additional holiday entitlement will be given at DSWF’s discretion around Christmas and New Year.
