About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and enthusiastic Technician to join a dedicated, friendly and professional Creative Arts and Design department. We require an Art & Design/Design technician to provide support for a large diverse department with responsibilities across subject areas which include Fine Art, Textiles, Graphic Design, Photography, Product Design and Engineering.
The Art and Design Technician will provide practical and administrative support to the Art Department across all disciplines. The successful candidate will have a relevant Art and Design qualifications and previous experience of working with a wide variety of art materials and techniques; as well as familiarity with the practicalities of creating physical displays and mounting work for exhibitions and in preparation for moderation. Duties will include coordinating and preparing materials and resources for teaching sessions and helping to manage workflow in department workshop areas specifically in the setting up of our photographic darkroom for teaching, facilitating large format printing, coordinating printmaking activities (screen coating for example) and 3D workshop activities (overseeing safe working using power tools for example).
An essential part of the role will be to provide technical support in our 3D workshop for staff and student working with wood, metal, plastics or ceramics. As such, the successful candidate will have 3D workshop experience and be able to ensure health and safety requirements are met. A working knowledge of laser cutting would be advantageous.
Good communication and ICT skills are also required for administration duties such as stock control, processing orders, and assisting in meeting the needs of students and staff.
