Job description
As an Area Operations Officer, you will deliver a safe, sustainable, and effective highway network for all road users by way of routine inspections. Routine inspections of the network identify defects that meet our investigatory levels as outlined in our maintenance strategy. Further duties include customer complaints resolutions, third-party (developers) inspections, raising works orders, and ensuring works carried out by statutory undertakers are compliant with legislation.

Tor this position you MUST be aware of the Traffic Management Act.
Job Context:
1. The post holder reports to the Highways Maintenance Manager
2. The post holder has indirect financial responsibility in respect of Fixed Penalty Notices and section 74 notices and no resource responsibility
3. To deliver reactive maintenance repairs highlighted by the highways safety inspections.
4. The post holder will be remote working for the majority of the day, but will be able to access the Councils network by the provision of appropriate IT solutions.
5. The post holder will occasionally be required to work outside 'normal' office hours, and as required by the line manager to 36 hours per week.
6. The post holder has indirect responsibility for contractors engaged in highways maintenance work and contractors engaged in utility work
Experience & Qualifications
In depth knowledge of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, Traffic Management Act 2004 and Highways Act 1980
The post holder requires a good knowledge of highways maintenance; health and safety legislation, and customer care experience.
To effectively deliver the functions within this role; excellent communication skills and experience are expected.
- NRSW Act supervisor qualification or equivalent.
- Approved training or equivalent experience in highway inspection and/or maintenance.
- Relevant qualification in CDM or equivalent.
- Approved training in Health & Safety in relation to highways works.
- Approved training of the Highways Act 1980, Traffic Management Act 2004, EPA Act, Cleaner Neighbourhoods Act, London Local Authorities Act, GDPR and Road Safety Audits
