Area Manufacturing Manager
Location: Uttoxeter – Elkes Biscuits
Salary: £36,000
Shift available: 3 on 3 off (06:30 to 19:00)
A new opportunity has arisen for an Area Manufacturing Manager, who is responsible for managing the relevant manufacturing areas from process to packing. The role will require communicating effectively with other areas and to coach and develop a team that strive for the same goals and objectives.
They will take full ownership and accountability for the operational performance in the factory area(s) of responsibility through effective leadership, the use of lean manufacturing and Continuous Improvement tools. This role will ensure the area is fully resourced, engaged and prioritised to deliver and exceed targets within the areas of People, Operations and Cost, and Technical performance as well as managing hygiene activity in the area and generating Standard Operating Procedures as appropriate.
Elkes Biscuits has real heritage in both the local area and also within the industry. In the early 1900s Samuel Elkes opened a confectionery shop in Uttoxeter and in 1928 a purpose-built biscuit factory was opened on the current site. The bakery is known for the biscuit barrel and is the home of the Malted Milk biscuits along with producing Ginger biscuits, Farley's Rusks, Custard Creams, Chocolate Digestive Bars, Oaties and Digestives. We provide retailer own label biscuits to all the major retailers including Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Marks and Spencer, Sainsbury’s, Aldi and Lidl in addition to the Elke’s brand.

People
- Instils a ‘Safety First’ Culture within the area.
- Manager of the area for Behavioural Safety implementation and delivery.
- Completion of Health and Safety audits/ tool kit.
- Team development and succession planning activity planned and delivered via use of PDR completion and 1:1 meetings with all team members
- Awareness, understanding and use of Elkes behaviours in role development for self and team members
- Discipline & Grievance handling.
- Absence management recruitment activity support and application and awareness of company rules and procedures Also support holiday planning processes,
- Labour control to the correct labour standards.
Operations and Cost
- Delivery and exceeding on area performance on Labor, Ingredients, and packaging variances.
- Key issues identified via day and shift reviews with teams and plans in place to address.
- Ensuring all SAP transactions are complete in area with a view on manufacturing variance.
- Lean principles understood and applied including line side boards. Lead CI projects through Area team; with adequate time, resource and cover provided.
- Ownership of quality and process capability, working with operators, process development and others to maintain daily control of product specifications and implement medium / long term improvements.
- Work closely with Engineering throughout the shift to ensure responsive focus on key assets.
Technical/Quality/NPD
- Full quality system compliance in area including Food Safety, HACCP, Legality, Integrity, Hygiene, GMP, Specifications and Quality culture. Hosting of all audits of and visits to area of responsibility during shift. Support for NPD activity including costings, trials and launches.
About you
- Experience in a similar position
- IOSH certificate required.
- Level 3 HACCP and Level 3 Food Safety but commitment to undertake if not already achieved.
- CI yellow belt preferred, but commitment to undertake if not already achieved.
- Clear evidence of driving sustainable change at area level in a fast- moving food manufacturing environment
- Clear evidence of driving performance improvement through engaged teams at area level.
- Awareness and application of varied processes, systems and CI techniques
- Clear evidence of ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally.
