The Opportunity

Our portfolio includes the best-selling Press & Journal, The Courier, Evening Express and Evening Telegraph, as well as the Sunday Post with its rich heritage of fearless investigative journalism and tireless national campaigning.

  • Keeping readers up to date with a broad range of Dundee-specific human-interest, crime and business stories
  • Presenting complex spending proposals, planning documents and similar in ways our audiences can easily understand.
  • Celebrating the spirit of our local communities and giving a voice to those closest to issues

Role:

A dedicated editor for Dundee will represent our readers and be their voice in the newsroom. With an unrivalled contacts book, they will do long-term, considered reporting on the issues that matter.

If someone in Dundee has an issue, concern or scandal they think The Courier should be looking into this is who they will turn to.

The team will also be ambassadors for the Courier and Evening Telegraph brands – our boots on the ground.

Area editors must be self-starters with a track record of bringing in brilliant, off-diary stories that will drive interest and engagement on our websites.

Accountabilities and responsibilities include:

  • Developing and contributing ideas during brainstorming and planning sessions that address audience needs
  • Contributing thoroughly researched and well-written news and features to brief
  • Supporting audience teams with local insight
  • Maintain best practices for publishing across platforms, implementing editorial guidelines and ensuring accuracy.
  • Knowledge, skills and attributes
  • Strong journalistic abilities, generating ideas for exclusive, analytical and engaging content.
  • Passion for the specific topic covered by their publishing team.
  • Willingness to embrace new skills and tools in the digital arena such as SEO, social media, video, audio etc.
  • Ability to work in a team, collaborating on ideas and sharing responsibility for meeting KPIs.
  • Highly developed communication skills
  • Detailed knowledge of Editors’ Code of Practice, GDPR and the law
