The role
As an Architectural Assistant (post RIBA part 1) or Architectural Assistant (post RIBA part 2), you will join a growing and highly skilled team of design leaders that bring technical and strategic assurance role to the broader Campus Development team.
Joining the University at a time when the organisation is engaged in some of the higher education sector’s most ambitious campus development projects, you will work alongside and report to the Division’s Senior Architect and act as an ambassador and advisor for the very highest levels of design quality. With a passion for creating places as well as landmark schemes, you will help drive collaborative working to generate outstanding outcomes and innovative/ cost effective solutions. You will work across and beyond the Division to provide technical, design and strategic placemaking assurance on all projects, emergent work, and strategic intent.
What will you be doing?
Working alongside the Senior Architect, you will act as critical friend and steward of design quality for key projects within the capital portfolio, assist in assessing emergent/early-stage projects and add expertise and resource to Capital Development’s space planning and placemaking activity. You will help raise the quality of design and strategic design/ placemaking intent on projects, infrastructure, and external realm across the University estate. Your job will include but not be limited by the following facets:
- evaluating need and shaping project briefs across a wide range of uses, from residential to research and from learning to leisure
- developing outline design proposals up to RIBA Stage 2 or 3 in response to identified needs
- running mini design competitions and other appointment processes for design team commissions
- acting as design leader within the Campus Planning and Capital Project teams
- ensuring delivery of design vision through stages RIBA stages 4 -7
- advocating for the university in liaison amongst the local planning community and development sectors
You should apply if
You will need to hold a related Architecture degree that carries exemption from RIBA part I or part II and be able to demonstrate your ability as an ambitious and skilled designer, interpreter, facilitator, communicator problem solver and critical friend. You will have a desire and drive to work collaboratively across teams as part of a multi-disciplinary approach. You will be able to demonstrate your commitment to positive change, to making a tangible difference, and hold excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.
Additional information
We have on offer an open ended role that is available to part 1&2 Architeture Graduates. Or a fixed term post to be filled by an Architecture degree student for 2 years during their study period.
