Job description
About this job
Barking and Dagenham is a New Kind of Council. Over the past four years we have gone through an ambitious transformation programme to ensure we can deliver real change with our community. This has seen us transform the council and the way we deliver our Public Realm services to our residents. As a division and as an organisation we pride ourselves on being a collaborative and inclusive employer that believes in developing staff to help them achieve their best. As a result, we can offer fantastic training opportunities, flexible working hours and experiences in working within a highly skilled Parks and Environment team.
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for the prestige position of Arboricultural Officer within the Public Realm division that supports the management of boroughwide trees and woodlands. The role is a one stop shop including everything from inspecting trees for scheduled pruning programmes through to assessing development planning applications and approving or rejecting Tree Preservation Orders.
The service plays a vital key role in continuing to successfully receive grant funding for the Council to play an important part in reaching net zero greenhouse gas emissions. The park teams have much influence when developing biodiverse and resilient greenspaces, and nature-based solutions address the climate crisis by improving ecosystems, to help communities build resilience to the impacts of climate change. The Arboricultural Officer position is key in supporting and developing this approach.
Embracing technological advancements within the industry is essential along with a positive drive towards promoting a positive health & safety culture.
