Pontus Research Limited is an innovative scientific research organisation based off the Heads of the Valleys road (A465) in Hirwaun, Rhondda Cynon Taff, South Wales. Over the past 9 years the company has built a reputation as one of the leading aquaculture research companies in the world, with sites in the UK and Singapore.
Already in role, or with some early career experience as an Aquaculture Technician, you will join us as a Trainee Aquaculture Technician & Project Coordinator.

As outlined, you will have some early career experience as an Aquaculture Technician and 50% of the role will be as a Trainee Aquaculture Technician, the other 50% will be focused on training to be a Project Coordinator, taking projects (trials and feeds) from start to completion.
As part of small technical project team, you will be accountable for:-
Technical
- Robust designation and accountability schedule on feed, control and the inspection of fish and the data collection, weighing, sample collection, preparation and storage, including daily environmental checks.
- Daily husbandry of experimental organisms and identify and solve promptly, any issues related to animal husbandry and welfare.
- Prepare, share and apply a robust plan of the inspection and maintenance of RAS, including but not limited to pumps, filters, tanks etc. and system cleaning; monitor and maintain optimal water quality parameters (Based on SOP).
- SOP control.
- Internal and External, clear and concise communications.
- Any other duties as recognised and required of that of a technician.
Project Coordination
- Develop trial study plans and feed production plans from signed project proposals and contracts.
- Coordinate assigned projects from new contract to handover ensuring customers’ needs are met and expectations exceeded in regard to communication and information.
- Ensure trials run in accordance with protocols agreed with clients, and any changes are communicated and agreed promptly with the client.
- Conduct post-trial analysis of results, and write up accurate reports and client data.
- Organise plan and conduct client meetings as and when necessary.
- Be able to balance technical responsibilities and a number of projects over various timescales.
- Collaboration with external subcontract laboratories, ensuring that work is performed to an agreed timescale, in order to meet clients expectations.
- Ensure animal welfare standards are maintained in line with A(SP)A guidelines.
Other
- You must live within 15 minutes of the site (animal welfare) - we understand that a relocation may be required
- Excellent IT literacy skills – Microsoft office and statistical analysis tools.
- Driven and energised – can work independently.
- Excellent attention to detail
- Can communicate effectively, orally (in person and in online meetings), in writing, generally and in relation to scientific and technical topics.
- Relevant Masters qualification (or equivalent) and/or demonstrable aquaculture technical experience.

- The entry level salary is £22,700 per annum for the split role.
