If you are passionate about Engineering and want to be the master of your own destiny, we might be the place for you!

About Universal Wolf

We are part of Tharsus Group, Northumberland's largest locally headquartered private employer, so it's an exciting time to join the business. We have just won The North East Chamber of Commerce Large Company of the Year and Business of the Year Awards, a testament to the great work that we are doing.

Our Apprentices get the chance to see and do a lot, as what Universal Wolf does is quite unique, as an apprentice you'll have the opportunity to spend time in various departments within the core functions here providing key underpinning knowledge and skills.

Our sites are in an easy to get to, just off Cowpen Road in Blyth, Northumberland.

We are looking for someone who wants to learn the business while they earn, working both on the shop floor and in the office while studying too.

About the Apprenticeship

  • At Universal Wolf, we are passionate about growing a skilled and talented team. Our apprenticeship programme is a key part of this.
  • Our Level 3 Advanced apprenticeship runs over four years, and you will attend college over each of those four years. How regularly you attend during your first year will depend on which pathway you choose.
  • After your first year, you will spend one day per week at college, and continue to develop your knowledge in a real and varied working environment.
  • Our Apprenticeship provides you with the opportunity to spend time in various departments within the core functions providing key underpinning knowledge and skills.
  • You'll be nurtured by some of the brightest minds in our business.

In 2023, there are 2 different pathways to choose from:

  • Production (Sheet metal fabrication or Machining)

Our Production apprentices will spend time working on our CNC or laser machines, or mastering different welding techniques including MIG and TIG welding.

  • Engineering (CAD/CAM)

If you've chosen to follow an Engineering apprenticeship, you'll spend time in our Engineering department, developing a technical understanding of how our products are designed and developed using CAD/CAM systems, and how the Engineering team works with and impacts on other departments.

  • You will gain insight into how products are designed and made as well as how materials are stored and distributed and everything else around that.
  • You'll learn how things work. How they are put together and both the theoretical and practical processes used in the fabrication of metal products.
  • In our fast-paced environment, you'll develop both a practical and academic knowledge.
  • You'll be preparing yourself for your career path taking you through roles within our rapidly growing business. You career path could lead to Degree level qualifications if that's where you want to take it as well as Engineering or Manufacturing Management.

What will you earn?

Our apprentices are paid above the national minimum wage and receive frequent performance reviews to ensure you are rewarded for your hard work and academic achievements.

What grades do you need?

To proceed onto our apprenticeship, you need actual or predicted grades of 5-9 in English and Maths, or equivalent.

Great employee benefits

  • An apprenticeship pay rate above the national standard
  • Company and colleague contribution pension scheme
  • Salary sacrifice schemes including the option to purchasing Additional Annual Leave and Bike to Work
  • Introduce a Colleague scheme (and get up to £1000!)
  • Subsidised staff social events
  • 25 days holiday per year & you'll never have to work on your birthday!
