How you'll make a difference
As an apprentice, you will make a difference by supporting the Finance team who are responsible for providing a range of strategic advice and operational financial support services to Council departments.
What will you be doing?
- You will be working closely and alongside existing experienced staff where you will assist them to maintain and update information systems and databases to ensure that service transactions are completed accurately.
- You’ll learn how to carry out highways costing, checking invoices, raising debtor invoices and maintaining outstanding orders.
- You’ll also have the opportunity to liaise with operational managers and colleagues and learn how to provide guidance about policies, procedures and processes.
- In addition, you’ll be taught how to provide a wide and varied range of administrative tasks to assigned projects ensuring support is provided and records are accurate which will help to inform decision making.
- The most challenging aspect of your apprenticeship will be working in a varied role and one where you will need to use initiative.
Throughout your 21 month apprenticeship, we will allocate you a workplace mentor to give you guidance and support in completing your Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship programme.

College attendance requires weekly day release learning at SGS College, Filton Avenue, Campus, Filton, Bristol, BS34 7AT.
The successful candidate will complete an initial basic skills assessment in maths and English with the Training Provider as part of the pre-enrolment process.
This apprenticeship will lead to industry recognised accounting technical qualifications with the Association of Accounting Technician (AAT) Foundation Diploma and Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting.
To successfully complete the apprenticeship you will be required to complete an end point assessment that consists of a synoptic end-test, and portfolio and reflective discussion.
You will have the support of a College Assessor throughout the duration of your apprenticeship programme.

What we need from you
- You will ideally hold a minimum of GCSE Grade 9-4 (or Grade A*-C ) or equivalent qualification in English and Maths or be willing to undertake and gain Functional Skills in English and Maths as part of the apprenticeship.
- You must have the drive and willingness to learn new things and be committed to gaining your qualification.
- Good numeracy and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
