Must have interest in working with animals and not be alreday qualified.
The Apprentice Animal Keeper main duties will include:
- Assist in day to day care of animals to include feeding etc
- Daily health checks on animals
- Cleaning and sanitizing of enclosures
- Adhering to H and S policies SSOW and risk assessments
- Dealing with the public with general enquiries
- Possibly doing animal encounters and public talks
- Administering medicine, measuring weights etc under direction of senior staff
- Build and provide enrichment for variety of animals
- General site maintenance and cleaning/tidying
Desired qualificationsNo qualifications required as full training will be given but candidate should have basic literacy and numeracy skills and be able to complete the Level XX ApprenticeshipGCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths, English and IT requiredPrevious experience in the sector would be beneficialTraining
- Training provider BISHOP BURTON COLLEGE
- Level 2 Animal Care & Welfare Assistant apprenticeship standard, which includes:
- Level 1/2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
- End-Point Assessment (EPA)
- Day release at Riseholme College
- Training will be provided mostly in the workplace with an assessor coming to visit on a regular basis to do work-based reviews, assessments, and observations.
