Job Introduction

Colas’ Technical Services department are responsible for ensuring our products are the highest quality before distributing to our external and internal customers. We have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Technician to work in the laboratory in Warrington to support the department with daily operations. You will assist the current team with testing and site work whilst completing your apprenticeship course.

Main Responsibilities

You will be involved with Safety Procedures in the laboratory, undertake Quality Control testing on various Colas products, assist in maintaining the laboratory facilities in good order, maintain all laboratory records for work undertaken.

Assist in testing and equipment calibrations in accordance with the relevant standards and/or procedures. (These tests/procedures should only be performed when competency has been successfully assessed), assist with the evaluation of the results of tests and calibrations as required, including reporting opinions and interpretations.

Undertake training (internal/external) as required

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for this role will be someone that has a keen interest and working in science-based subjects especially Chemistry. You will also have excellent communication skills both written (formal/report) and spoken.

You will need to be confident with a positive commitment to safety. Adaptable, versatile and driven as you will have to travel, often at short notice, a driving licence is essential

  • GCSE’s in Maths, English and Science subjects is desirable.
  • Good working knowledge of science subjects.
  • Full Clean Driving licence.
  • Ideally some industry knowledge
  • Some experience in laboratory work would be desirable.
  • Report writing and maintenance of laboratory records.
  • Able to communicate effectively with other departments within Colas.
