Come and join us as an apprentice tanker and tipper driver and you'll be given the training and development to take that first step onto the career ladder, supported by the United Utilities family. As an apprentice tanker driver you will be part of a team who transport sludge between United Utilities Wastewater Treatment Works and third party locations.

A bit more about the role
During your 19 month apprenticeship as an Apprentice tanker and tipper driver the work you will do is vital for our business. You'll be driving our large goods vehicles to transport our sludge. In this role, you will be involved in:
- Transporting treated or untreated liquid sludge via road tanker between United Utilities sites
- Ensuring you're compliant with all relevant legal requirements, including making sure you do your daily vehicle checks, and report any problems with the vehicle
- Loading and unloading bulk tipper trucks using silo loading systems and or loading shovels
- Providing an efficient, cost effective and quality service for internal and external customers
- Driving both rigid and articulated bulk sided tipper trucks, collecting sludge cake from various UU sites then delivering and stockpiling at agricultural outlets
- Ensuring you follow health and safety practices and stay safe at work
Successful apprentices will achieve Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) Driver Level 2 Apprenticeship endorsed by the Institute for Apprenticeships. More details can be found here: Large goods vehicle (LGV) driver C + E / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education
What you'll learn from us:
- How to transport treated or untreated sludge from wastewater or water treatment processes using tankers
- How to drive a LGV.
- Training on how to drive, load and unload the articulated and rigid tanker using the available on-site and vehicle systems
- Guidance on how to work with operations to ensure sludge is of optimum quality and consistency
- How to ensure that all health and safety requirements and procedures are followed, in particular to drive and operate the vehicle in a safe manner
- How to undertake basic operational tasks when required
You'll need to have 2 GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English along with a full driving licence.
We're looking for someone who is customer focused, keen to gain hands on experience, develop practical skills and achieve the standards needed to really succeed in your role.
You'll have a dedicated mentor and manager who'll be on hand to support you every step of the way. All that we ask from you is that you're willing to learn, know how to work as part of a team and can manage your time and workload to get things done.
