Be able to plan and successfully undertake the academic components of the Diagnostic Radiographer Apprenticeship course whilst continuing to achieve clinical competencies. To plan and undertake continued studies both in the workplace and at home. To work as part of a team responsible for providing an efficient imaging service at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. Attend mandatory block weeks for the Diagnostic Radiographer Apprenticeship programme at the University of Sheffield.
Make a commitment to study both within working hours and at home during the duration of the apprenticeship course. Attend virtual tutorials and webinars and complete all e-learning as instructed by the University of Sheffield. Attend tutorials, teaching and CPD events arranged by the Diagnostic Imaging Department as instructed by the Advanced Practitioner. To perform a range of radiographic imaging procedures, as detailed within the apprenticeship programme, within the Radiology department under the supervision of a qualified radiographer at all times.
To ensure that the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017, IRMER 2017 and associated codes of practice and guidance notes together with the Health and Safety at Work Act are understood and adhered to in respect of staff, patients and members of the public. Works within the boundaries of existing competence, adhering to the MYHT Radiation Safety Policy and national and local standard operating procedures/protocols. To immediately report any fault errors following departmental processes and highlight to the supervising radiographer. To communicate effectively with patients and carers of varying abilities and understanding; explaining procedures in order to gain co-operation.
To re-assure and encourage patients and carers. To liaise with multidisciplinary teams regarding examination needs and results. To build and maintain good relationships within the team and other departments and disciplines; working together to develop service improvements. To ensure the safe use of x-ray and associated equipment.
To report equipment malfunctions to senior staff and to help maintain comprehensive and accurate records of faults; ensuring that staff are kept up to date as to the working status of equipment. To input, store and provide patient information on the directorate Radiology Information System maintaining the integrity and quality of the data consistent with legislation, policies and procedures. Prioritise own tasks under the appropriate delegation of the registered practitioner. To actively participate in departmental meetings.
