In CIS we deliver network and security solutions to support the digital railway. Our portfolio includes the provision of telecommunication systems and cyber security solutions including data network, voice solution and security solution. We undertake a full project life cycle delivery from concept development and detailed design to implementation, test, installation, and commissioning.

We are recruiting school and college leavers to join our Level 4 apprenticeship scheme who want to make a difference and develop their skills in Telecoms/ Networks.

You will be enrolled on the Cyber Security Technician Standard.

The Challenge:

Part of being an apprentice at Siemens means you get to work on real life projects whilst also being supported on a guided learning journey. You will undertake the “Network Engineer” Level 4 Apprenticeship over a 2 year period.

Here is how the programme works:

During this programme you will:

  • Experience a full project lifecycle of a Railway Telecoms project; working on a variety of different tasks from Design right through to Installation, Test and Commissioning.

  • Delve into the world of Networking. IP technology is becoming increasingly prevalent in today’s railway, with more and more projects moving towards this technology. You will be exposed to Network Design, as well as getting hands on with configuring and testing networks in our lab area.

  • Work on real projects which may include Networks for Signalling, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) or Station Information & Security Systems (SISS)

  • Undertake Siemens training courses with Siemens in house training team, including technical training to achieve CCNA accreditation

  • Develop excellent knowledge of technical standards and processes associated with the transport and telecoms industries.

  • Be a valued member within a team of Early Careers (Apprentices/Interns/Graduates) to participate in the Business Improvement Project (BIP) Scheme. The scope of the project is to create and present a solution to executive management. It provides you with valuable team working and presentation skills.

  • Be an ambassador for STEM through a multitude of volunteering opportunities, such as Greenpower, Big Bang Fair and much more.

The Candidate:

We are looking for forward-thinking, inquisitive candidates that demonstrate the following characteristics:

  • You will have achieved at least 5 GCSE's including Maths and English language and 3 A Levels (or BTEC equivalent)

  • You think logically, willing to self-learn and research, and take a creative approach to problem solving

  • You enjoy collaborating with others to find innovative solutions

  • You can work independently, safely and responsibly; take ownership of challenges and ideas and are looking to develop your ability to drive and lead change

  • Identify with our values of Zero Harm, Innovative, Excellent and Responsible. We can teach you the knowledge on your apprenticeship however it also means a lot to us for you to align to our culture and behaviours.
