The Polypipe apprenticeship program provides the opportunity for apprentices to build a strong foundation of capability, that will equip you with the knowledge, skills and values required to become an outstanding engineer. You will be dealing with mechanical and Electrical maintenance, installation, fault finding and repair.
Working week
08.00am - 04.30pm, Monday - Friday, whilst in apprenticeship training.
Total hours per week: 40.0
What will the apprentice be doing?
Supported by your training and our team, your tasks will include:
- Mechanical and Electrical maintenance, installation, fault finding and repair
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
- Learning pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Learning to work with programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
- Responding to breakdowns of production machinery
- To assist with the completion of maintenance documents/worksheets
- Assisting with engineering projects and improvement work
- Servicing and maintaining production machinery in line with the company’s
- planned maintenance programme
- Supporting the Machine Operators and Factory Supervisors
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician
Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
A bespoke programme of practical, technical and vocational learning
Functional Skills in maths and English (if applicable)
The first year of the apprenticeship is based at Grimsby Institute, where you will learn the basics of engineering, and introduce you to mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment. After the successful completion of year 1, you will continue your training from our head office on Holmes Way in Horncastle. During years 2-4, you will support and eventually perform fault finding, repair and preventative maintenance work.

The Polypipe Apprentice Programme provides a fantastic opportunity for apprentices to build a strong foundation of capability that will lead to a permanent job role and possible internal progression.
After successfully completing year one, you’ll be working from our offices on Holmes Way in Horncastle to continue your training. During years two to four, you’ll support and eventually perform engineering maintenance work.

Things to consider
The first year of the apprenticeship will be based at The Grimsby Institute, Nuns Corner, Grimsby, DN34 5BQ. Thereafter, your place of work will be Polypipe Civils & Green Urbanisation, Holmes Way, Horncastle, LN9 6JW. Please check the locations, to ensure you are able to report for work on a daily basis.
