As a Babcock Apprentice Maintenance Engineer, in the Land Defence sector, you will receive hands-on training and valuable experience in a wide range of maintenance activities including but not limited to:

Assisting in the maintenance, repair, and operation of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.



Conducting routine inspections and preventive maintenance tasks.



Carrying out reactive works and repair faulty equipment within contractual agreements and timelines.



Carrying out fault finding, fault diagnosis, de-commissioning, component replacement, testing and re-commissioning of existing industrial and commercial ventilating, heating, water supply, waste (effluent discharge), drainage, and related electrical systems.



Assisting with troubleshooting and resolving equipment issues.



Supporting asset management activities, including inventory management and condition assessments.
Collaborating with experienced engineers and mentors to develop your skills.



Planning, organising and undertaking activities in ways which use resources effectively to complete work, with consideration for cost, quality, time, safety, security and environmental impact, within relevant legislative requirements, specifications, codes of practice and industry recognised practices.



Applying relevant safety legislation, codes of practice and safe working practices to themselves and others.


The tasks are challenging and varied in an exciting environment, producing work which ensures our customers, specifically the Army’s Royal Engineers, have first class infrastructure they can depend on.


The role is based on a military Camp near Aldershot, which is the home of Combat Engineer Training for the Royal Engineers. Suffice to say the opportunity to become part of the enabling workforce within Defence is hugely interesting and differs considerably from standard HGV driving.



Qualifications you’ll get:

Level 3 Building Services Engineering Service and Maintenance Engineer Apprenticeship Standard:

You will attend college on a day-release basis and receive on-the-job training from our on-site engineers. Functional skills in English at level 2 will have to be undertaken if required.


What you’ll need:

A passion for building maintenance and a desire to pursue a career in facilities engineering. GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade 4-9 (A*-C)) Desired. Apprentices without level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level before taking the end-point assessment.



Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Physically fit.
Be non judgmental.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Motivation to learn, with the ability to be trained.
Strong work ethic with a can do attitude.
