Job description

We are a very busy boarding kennels and cattery, we also offer doggie day care. We have been licenced by the present owner for 23 years for 65 dogs and 20 cats and we hold a high grade from he local authority. The staff are a small friendly dedicated team who maintain high standards of care for all the animals in our care.

We are offering an apprenticeship as a kennel assistant to someone who wishes to work on a daily basis with cats and dogs. The work will involve feeding, exercising and cleaning. You must be prepared to work in all weather conditions. We can offer good educational support by a friendly team of established employees.

Duties will include but not limited to;

  • give medication
  • sanitise kennels and cat pens
  • take bookings over the telephone
  • meet and greet customers with their pets so customer service skills are also essential.
  • monitoring systems such as food records, medical records and admission questionnaires.

Uniform will be provided together with an opportunity to take a first aid at work qualification.

Qualifications

  • Applicants MUST NOT already hold a level 2 in Animal Care
  • GCSE Maths and English Grade C/4 or equivalent desirable.
  • Previous handling of cats/dogs would be desirable as this is a hands-on role.

Training

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards and gain a Level 2 Animal Care & Welfare Apprenticeship Standard.
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship

Things to Consider

  • KEITS Training Services Ltd reserves the right to close the vacancy earlier than the listed closing date should the need arise.
  • The apprentice will be working to build a portfolio of evidence and will be required to pass a knowledge test and an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete the apprenticeship.
  • There is no public transport to Staker Lane so you would need your own car or to be brought in.
