Job description
DO YOU WANT TO BE A JOURNALIST?
A rare chance to earn while you learn as an apprentice journalist
We're looking for FIVE enthusiastic apprentice journalists to join our Daily Press Division.
We are assembling a team of specialists who will source, write and curate exciting, informative and entertaining content for the Yorkshire Evening Post, Sheffield Star, Edinburgh Evening News, Portsmouth News, Blackpool Gazette, Lancashire Post, Sunderland Echo and Shields Gazette.
The good news is we want to recruit five enthusiastic apprentices to help us deliver on our exciting plans for these titles.
We want bright, enthusiastic, creative, hard-workers aged over 18 to join our team.
A passion for journalism is more important than being based in one of the cities or towns we serve.
What’s in it for you?
- Your first step on the ladder in the most amazing career in the world
- A professional journalism qualification, the NCTJ Diploma in Journalism
- The opportunity to earn a salary while learning your trade
- All college fees paid by us
- Professional training plus on-going support
- A personal mentor to help you through the apprenticeship
- An 18-month contract starting in September
- 26 days’ annual leave, plus bank holidays
- Four days per week at work, and one day a week in college
We are not looking for people with perfect qualifications, although you will have to show you have achieved basic standards of English and Maths.
It is more important for you to show us evidence of your commitment to a career in journalism, enthusiasm and fresh ideas to help us tell stories and present information that will inform, educate, inspire and entertain our readers.
While all five roles will have some common ground, we want each apprentice to specialise in a particular area.
We want people who will specialise in:
- News
- Sport
- Entertainment
If you are interested, send us your name, age, address and contact details.
We also want you to tell us what you are doing now and why you would make a great apprentice, in no more than 300 words.
Please indicate which specialism interests you most.
Email your details to [email protected] with the words APPRENTICE DAILY PRESS DIVISION in the subject line by 28th April 2023.
